I also played Space fleet a long time ago. While I agree that the old shapes made more sense, the newer ones feel more like something the Imperium would build, big and in your face. I mean, why try to hide or look innosent in space when your the size of a small moon! :)

I am fairly middle of the road in my likes for Gothic. I played Space Fleet when it was out, but the ships seemed too cartoony. The newer Voss prows are also a little cartoony for me. I like the look of the traditional Gothic ships, they actually look like cities in space.

I dont like the Blackstone rules. The model itself is certainly not one of my favourites, and I would not buy it just for that, but the rules are crazy. I dont want a station worth that many points. I like games which ships in them, and more than a couple. In general, the fewer models in Gothic, the less actual strategy is involved.

I was thinking of getting back into the game. I have to assume the rules have improved since the old SF game. Which were horribly basic. I know I have the itch to build ships. I don't know. What do you all think? Is the game worth getting back into? Let me know your thoughts.  :p

Definately worth playing! Gothic and Space Fleet are two completely different games. Gothic has no, I repeat NO, cunning-box-lid-combat-tray!

Gothic is a MUCH better game than SF, the minis are great, the game plays really well and you actually need strategies and tactics to win. Try it, go on, you know you want to!  :D

It is a great game, and similar to Epic in certain ways. The ships never stop moving, so you have to plan at least a turn in advance. In addition, it takes about two ships concentrated fire to knock out an enemy, which makes planning and setting targets vital.

Well, Duh :O You should play it :D
The rules have definatly changed since space fleet, for one there is no grid for movement :)
If you can find some players Gothic is a very cool game to play. It has just had a major re-launch in the US so it shouldn't be too hard.
Give it a try, buy the basic box set if you can and give it a few games, or cheaper still, find someone with the game and get them to show you how it works, you have nothing to lose (apart from the next few months of your life as you build your fleet :p )

Edit: damm you CS, you beat me by seconds :L )

Ok, I think I may get into it. I purchased a little gothic invasion expansion mag. Just to get a look at the ships and things. Since I have the bug to build, I may as well have some pictures. I will start looking to start a fleet. I will need your help with where to get stuff. Trade or sale...and don't say GW. I want a deal, not my nipples twisted.

I finally found a picture of the Mars conversion that I mentioned at the bottom of page one of this thread:

Uggggggghhhhhhhhh. I hate this model. It adds the smooth lines of the missile launcher to the city scape look of the Imperial Ship. A bad mix.

Cheers

Chris

Hmm.. I think I agree.. that Chaos bridge on the front makes it look rather unbalanced too.... :L

Funny, it seemed bigger the way I remembered it before, thats why I mentioned it,  ???

Its doesn't even fit in with the Imperial ships. I suppose you could say that about the new Aquilla prows. But the galaxy is a big place.

Cheers

Chris
