At this point, the mechs I've got are what I can use and inside of that are the internal BV constraints to make all of it balance. Outside of swapping variants and clan/IS mechs around, what you see is what I've got to work with. I don't mind swapping out the Falcons for another clan or changing the ELH to a different group if it fits better, but to give myself a good variety of lances and combinations for play, I don't want to add more Ryuken.

Basically, If Wolf and jade falcon fought the Dragoons and Kuritia that's enough to make it fit the theme. If the ELH were around too, that's an added bonus :)

Jade Falcon and Wolf didn't, that's the problem (no, I'm not sure why no one noticed this). :P Smoke Jags did fight Kurita, though, as did Ghost Bears and Nova Cats.

I think I'll leave the IS lances alone, from what I've read, ELH did have a striker regiment and some heavy mech so I don't think that the lance composition is too far fetched for them.

For the clans, here's what I've got:
2x Nova
2x Timberwolf
1x Mad Dog
1x Loki
1x War Hawk
1x Dire Wolf
1x Fenris
1x Ice Ferret
1x Storm Crow

Mechs I'm not really fond of the look of, but that I could possibly pull out if needed:
1x Gladiator
1x Man o' War

Now, granted, I'm pretty fond of the existing stars we have listed up there, so I might just say screw it, I'm going with these. :)

2x Nova - universal
2x Timberwolf - Wolf
1x Mad Dog - general (Ghost Bear, Smoke Jaguar)
1x Loki - universal (Jade Falcon)
1x War Hawk - Smoke Jaguar
1x Dire Wolf - Smoke Jaguar, Wolf
2x Fenris (the Fenris IS the Ice Ferret) - Wolf
1x Storm Crow - General (Smoke Jaguar)
1x Gladiator - Ghost Bear, Smoke Jaguar
1x Gargoyle - Wolf, General?

Also, remember that the Clans'll generally have better pilots than the Inner Sphere, and so your BVs should try to keep that in mind.

Anyway, you have five mechs that fit decently in Clan Smoke Jaguar. It'd basically be an assault star, though (the Smoke Jaguars like heavy units. :P) The Nova Cats, their traditional rivals, apparently favor lighter and medium mechs, and are notorious for their accuracy.

I'd recommend giving the Nova Cats some general mechs and one Smoke Jaguar mech (captured in battle) and the Smoke Jaguars the rest of the Smoke Jaguar mechs and a general mech or two. Tilt the Jaguars toward heavy and the Nova Cats toward light, and use increased gunnery skill to balance things out somewhat.

Sorry I made a mistake with the Fenris/Ice Ferret. I've only got one of the mechs, not two. This is just getting more and more complicated. I'd prefer to have the basic mechs balanced with the BV for the 4/5 pilots and the adjust the pilot skills to tilt towards the clans. That way everything is working off the same baseline.

Based on what you've listed, I really don't like the options. The Gladiator and Gargoyle are there only if there is absolutely no other options available. I really dislike the look of both mechs. Based on what you are saying, I can still pull off the Warhawk lance as smoke jaguar so that's fine as is. Delta Galaxy seems to have an interesting scheme. Or perhaps Shroud Keshik. Or Jaguar's Den.

1x nova
1x Mad Dog
1x Loki
1x War Hawk
1x Storm Crow

That leaves me with
1x Nova
2x Timber Wolf
1x Dire Wolf
1x Fenris

and the other two.
None of those seem to fit with nova cats and the fenris almost seems exclusive to Wolf. I guess I can just leave that star as the original Wolf idea since four of the 5 mechs are native to the wolves. The question then is would the wolves fight the smoke jaguars? And would both fight the ELH, DCMS, and Dragoons?

The Wolves might fight the Smoke Jaguars occasionally (though not regularly). They wouldn't fight the Dragoons. I don't recall them fighting the DCMS. And the ELH definitely fought the Falcons, but I don't know about the Wolves.

You could drop one of the Timber Wolves and the Fenris for the two mechs you don't like much (or both the Timber Wolves, I suppose). That'd make a decent Nova Cat star - it'd be a bit heavy, but it's got the speed one would expect.

So it's bee a bit. I really would like to keep the smoke Jaguars and Wolves and the two clan lances. If it's not out of the question that the two clans would ever have a trial against each other or otherwise fight then that's good enough. Same for if it is plausable that the clans would fight the others. (I realize the problem with them fgihting Wolf's Dragoons, but perhaps instead of the black widow company for the fourth IS lance I could do another unit.

I'm planning on it having 2x marauders, a warhammer, and a rifleman if that brings anything to mind. Hopefully that would give me a combination of three IS lances that would fight against either clan.

Update for the weekend. It took a bit of work, but I've gotten the next six mechs ready to go. Four of these are for myself and will be painted olive drab as a Eridani Light Horse lance and the other two are commission pieces of a crab and king crab.

On the rifleman, this was a pretty intensive repose... which looks great from every angle except full on left where the legs appear too close together. It doesn't look like there is anything I can do about it since it appears the thigh area on the Rifleman is too short to correctly separate the legs and I'm already at the max rotataion for the joint before it hits the hip. :(

Could do that last lance as Grey Death Legion.

Like the new poses, nicely animated.

The GDL mostly fought the Falcons, not the Wolves, as I understand it.

another group of mechs done for a client. He wanted two crabs painted up in the same LG theme but without house markings. Pics ended up a bit fuzzy and oddly dark, but I think the shading turned out fairly well. next up is the ELH lance and a Reaver Titan that's looking to take most of the remainder of the year.
