Thanks! My mistake. Shows how little I know about all this :)

Hmmm... the bases this time was just a variety of rock bits like you can see up in the unpainted pics. Since I primed them in white I just painted graveyard earth over the basing and let it dry before a heavy wash of scorched brown. THat was followed by a little bit of bleached bone drybrushed onto the base and after that it was mainly adding in some green, gray, and red-brown to break up the colors a bit and make it seem a tad more natural. The rest was the same stuff I use on my epic and 40k models.

No worries. :)

The Ryuken are pretty neat - I think you chose well. Any ideas for their antagonists?

None quite yet. Planning on the next three being some form of mercinary band so it doesn't seem out of place for the draconis units to be attacking them or for them to be with the draconis units.

Beyond that there are some plans for the clan mechs that may end up being Wolf or another scheme. Undecided yet.

The Wolves didn't really run into the Kuritans. Smoke Jaguar, Nova Cat and Ghost Bear fought in the Draconis Combine during the Invasion.

Maybe not, but I don't really like the scheme used with those other clans though :)

You don't like the Ghost Bear scheme? Madness!

Also, they're pretty variable. For one, they all often use camo.

Not really. There might be a couple of schemes from the Ghost Bears and Smoke Jaguars that could be workable but for hte most part I like the wolf schemes better for a foundation. After doing a bit more research though I think I've settled on the Merc forces being Wolf's Dragoons either Epsilon or Gamma. Seems that they trained the unit I'm painting from the Combine so it makes a good fit and as mercs they could show up on the other team. If I do end up with Ghost Bear or Smoke Jag for the Clans it'll be a bit better than Wolf fighting Wolf.

Remember, Wolf's Dragoons and Kurita had a famous falling out - the Ryuken and the Dragoons basically blasted each other apart for a few months on a planet called Misery. They never worked for Kurita again until they saved the Draconis Combine capital from a Clan invasion.

That just makes it perfect for allowing them to both work together and fight each other. Against the clans in a large battle it makes sense for them to work together and if the clans aren't present it also makes sense for them to be fighting each other.

True enough.

The Battle of Luthien

Smoke Jaguar and Nova Cat were the participants in that. But it would make sense for the Dragoons to fight the Ghost Bears in a few later engagements.

This weekend has been a wash for painting mainly because of sorting through several hundred battletech card game cards... there was enough to make 9 full decks with tons and tons more to spare. Anyway. With the cards covering the floor of my studio all week I only had time to start fiddling with one of the plastic victor models from the old citytech box. I liked the look of mech in the art and the metals however the sculptor on this one made some very... odd choices with the shoulders and pose. He's still got a ways to go with gap filling and I have to rebuild the shoulders, fix the left arm, and fix some details on the legs.

Yeah, I've never understood why the Victor is the way it is either. The Centurion's almost as bad.

EDIT: For the unfamiliar, the one on the right is more-or-less the stock pose.

The centurion is far worse. It looks alright at first glance but the longer you study it, the worse it get. The left arm is far too long and the hand (mitten) is too large. It's lower leg is too short compared to the upper leg. So although it stands about the right height, the knee is not in the right spot.

I've never been able to bring myself to look at them for long periods. :P It's a good torso and decent head, and then the appendages just ruin it.

Well, the battlemaster is finally done. I tried a shortcut to do the hex pattern and it failed miserably. Partly due to the cast and partly due to the sculpt. It did help somewhat so that left me going back in and painting each one while trying to account for the blending. I'm not entirely thrilled with how he turned out because of the canopy. These large odd shaped cockpits aren't something I'm used to so it makes it far more challenging. I'm also not thrilled with how the draconis symbol or the number turned out and I'm kicking myself for trying to finish it. Basically, too much time without food equals shaky hands combined with too high a temperature in the studio makes the paint dry too fast. Other than that, I do like how the missiles turned out and most of the other bits I would change just come down to the problems with the plastic cast losing detail or being garbled by where the mold lines were.

I have some other bits to go on to for now, but next up will be to finish up the victor fixes and start in on the dragoon's wasp, wolverine and warhammer. I've also included a group shot.
