Well I've finally got my UCM starter and Kodiak undercoated, and with more coming I figured I'd better explain.

Apparently at one of the Adepticon Council meetings it was suggested that there be a DZC event, and a friend of mine brought up my name as someone who was playing. I (perhaps foolishly) agreed to host a demo game. So I went ahead and bought enough UCM to make a 750pt force, and got an equal sized PHR force as well. Then I got a batch of Gamecraft 10mm buildings. I still need to gat materials for the board, but otherwise I'm done with the expenses.

So: I've basecoated all the vehicles, and assembled the infantry and sanded the bases. Tommorrow I plan to basecoat the infantry and start to paint.

Everthing together, along with a few of the cardstock buildings I've made.

Just the vehicles, allowing some more detail to be discerned.
Left to right: Bear APCs, Condor Medium Dropship, Kodiak ACV, Condor, Rapier AA Tanks, Condor, and Sabre MBTs.

I'm planning on a three color airbrushed camo for the vehicles, using GW Mechanicus Standard Grey base and Abbadon Black and Administratum Grey stripes.

To abolish any ideas that I have any artistic talent, here is the quick workup I did to check the look:
Image

The aircraft will e a two tone camo, with Mechanicus Standard Grey upper and Administratum Grey Lower:

Infantry will be Mechanicus standard grey armor, probably with squad markings on the shoulders.

Still in transit are UCM Wolverine Scout Buggies, UCM Raven-A Light Dropships, UCM Praetorians, a PHR starter, UHR Sirens, and Triton A1 Strike dropships. And the Gamecraft buildings.

The infantry look large compared to the flyers.
Do they look ok size wise in real life?

I think that's mostly the contrast between the metal and black undecoat. The dropship cockpits are clearly one person, and frankly could use some more depth below the glass if I'm being picky, but the scale is fine. I'll try to rememer to get a scale shot with them together in the next update.

All right - I got the first few chassis airbrushed and completed one.

I'm not 100% happy with the camo, but the wash helps a great deal to tie it together.

A scale comparison between the Condor and Infantry. The scale is a it off, but given the condor would normally be at the top of a 3" rod I doubt it will matter ingame.

That washed and detailed hull is looking pretty good, I never quite got that style of spraying to work how i wanted, maybe all that was missing was a wash …

Thanks for the comparison shot of the infantry and the flyer.

Another update: painted stuff is thin (just a rebasing of the first Legionnaire squad and the second squad painted except flocking), but my second order came and I've got most of the PHR vehicles built - though I've not got the infantry started yet.

The two squads of Legionnaires with APCs.

PHR (Loaded) - Left to right - Triton A1 Strike Dropship with optional mniguns and missiles, Neptune Medium Dropship with Phobos AA Battle Walkers, Neptune with Juno A1 IFVs, Neptune with disarmed (ha!) Ares Antiarmor Battle Walkers, another upgunned Triton A1.

Image
PHR (unloaded) - Maaaaaagnets! This is a much harder operation for UCM due to the type of connections. I may or may not do it for any later purchases, I'm not sure.

Closeups - with some adjustments because the flash wased all the detail out:

UCM MBTs are 29mm long and 22mm wide, and about 8 mm high with armature folded.. UCM APCs are 49mm long, 21mm wide, 14mm high. PHR IFVs are 42x22x16mm. PHR walkers are as close to a 30mm cube as makes no difference.

The first of my Condor Medium Dropships. Still very WIP, so I'd appreciate any feed back you have. Still to do: Finish canopy, lights and sensors, engine glow.

The more I see, the more I like them (your painting as well as the line itself)

#1 I'd love to see a better closeup of the cockpit, your windows look great.
#2 I appreciate the sense of realism for the actual camo and colorscheme, something I feel this line should exhibit (as opposed to Epic and 40k where insane color is par course). However they feel a bit plain to me. I totally get this are WIP and you're the type of guy that's going to get them painted and based and then go back to add all those little details that really take things to the next level.

I was at Boeing a whiles back and snapped a bunch of pics of the wear patterns and symbols and whatnot found on real military equipment for inspiration and reference. in example->

Since IMO DZC really goes for hard scifi realism (if that's not an oxymoron I dont know what is) I'd look to add a bunch of that to these guys. Got plenty more in my PB site.

otherwise this is a fantastic start!

I may well do some more markings - I'm just not sure what yet. I need to think about whether I want to assign dropships to specific squads or not first, among other things.

Here's a shot of the finished canopy.

Underside. The little translucent piece is the 'Hawk Widget' which slots over the top of the flying stand.

A quick (and somewhat ironic) update - my buildings arived from gamecraft today.

Image

Spent about $100 on the ten buildings.

I plan to get some transparency sheets to glaze the windows, then mask off and paint different sections for lighted and unlighted windows.
