I managed to get my Grubby Painters hands on a few pre-release miniatures and I've posted my initial (straight out the parcel) thoughts of them up on my blog, in my usual pick-holes-anywhere-I-Possibly-can way ;)

I find it impressive that you found so few spots to pick on - I know you get pickier the more you like a model, and it's clear you like these a lot. Thanks for the review, but get those pics up! ;)

Pics up! They're classic shiny metal horror pics, but they're big to compensate hopefully! :/

Took the dive. Got a UCM starter and a Kodiak Command Vehicle, plus the rules. I'll post my own thoughts when they arrive. With any luck they're as clean as they appear on the site.

I will be looking for guest reviews and articles on these (and pretty much anything) for the main site shortly.... ;)

The miniatures are very nice, almost like pre CGI movie props.

Release is the 23rd, so only a few reviewers at most will have actual product.. They should compare closely to Warmaster in scale.

I'm actually underwhelmed by the infantry models - I could sculpt them a lot better.

Their vehicles are fantastic though.

I'd have to agree there - they look very good compared to a lot of 10mm out there, but are still the weakest link in a very strong range.

If by 'alot better' you mean you would use true proportions, I guess that is what you do, but that is a matter of taste.

Hawk Wargames infantry have more reproduced detail in their photos than your Timeline minatures do in your photos. At first glance Hawk Wargames seem to access to better 3d print technology, but that maybe just a side effect of their willingness to exagerate details. Personally I like that true sculpt look where certain elements are exagerated. I suppose, not counting quality of print/casting issues, it is just a subjective matter of taste.

No, I simply mean.better. Cleaner details and straighter lines and proportionst that are the same on each figure.

I'd say you're quite wrong on the level of detail on my timeline figures, but then, Hawk have some fantastic painters behind them, and I do not. In addition, bobble-proportioned figures are simply easier to paint and sculpt.

Miniature making is an art, art is subjective. E&C you are making broad sweeping statements about a subjective topic like they have facts that can be defined and measured.

From my subjective opinion, there are many traditional sculptors who do better 10mm figures, GW's Warmaster, and Copplestones 10mm fantasy, and Eureka 10mm figures are all, in my totally subjective opinion, better than yours and better than Warhawks.

As for proportions, sometimes a sculptor (or in your case, a designer) may vary such things, to show dynamic movement, or help ID important units, and characters. Again, this would be a subjective artistic decision.

Some of your figure designs from my personal experience can be like painting on a blank canvas. Often they lack clearly defined physical breaks between features such as hairlines, between skin and armor, etc. The painter has to make this definition with paint, I find that odd in a miniature and a step backwards in design. Yes the exagerated, bobble-proportioned (as you derisively term it) are easier to paint, and in my subjective opinion, look better on the game table.

You, and others of your design school, have your opinion, preferences, and tastes and I, and others, have theirs, my main point is none of our artistic preferences are facts as you state them, they are just styles and preferences and are totally subjective.
