New year, new thread and time to share what I worked on in secret for EpiComp beyond my "award winning" Terrain Marines (to the 8 people who voted B I'm on to you...)!

I'll skip all the WiP shots and just jump straight the final product. I've had these MWG figs around for a year or so and thought it was time to paint some up. I did some minor conversions here and there so I could use them as Tau proxies in addition to what I was originally thinking for them.

Anyway, here's the group shot:
Image

My Hammerhead proxy with Railgun (I used a 40k Pulse Rifle barrel and two of the Autocannon turrets from the APCs that I got spare from Steve):
Image

My Skyray proxy (with a missile turret from the APC again and a plastic BB cut in half so the main turret pointed up more):
Image

And finally my Devilfish proxy which is stock MWG:

Very nice. I personally find the model you used for the Devilfish unattractive, but if the shoe fits... I've looked into these for this purpose myself.

edit - The paint job is superb, especially the windows, I just don't like the model.

I like the Trout hull better and was pretty surprised at how big they were when I got them too. They've grown on me though. I'll be using the Czars I got from CC as Orcas.

Not a whole lot of progress over the holidays, still hoping to have these done for the 21st though. I've been working on repairing the spears that broke a month or two back, it's been slow going though as my glue isn't cooperating with the low humidity and cold weather.

The wood is nearly done on all of these, once I get to the leather and hair I'll hit all of those with a brown wash. Then it's on to the red, decals and touchup.

if you're having trouble with superglue and cold weather, use a hair dryer (I know you have one Dave, don't deny it!), both to warm the parts up and to help the glue set afterwards. Had to do that to fix a car door handle once, worked a treat.

I have to agree with SG, the hammerhead and skyray proxies look great, the devilfish one less so. Just a bit too blocky for me, although I'm sure they'll blend in once they're among the army and on the table.

Very cool, really like the rail gun conversion, hadn't noticed it was a tau part :P

Try huffing your breath over the applied supper-glue/other part before sticking them together, added moisture.

Disclaimer: TacComm's does not condone the act of huffing glue.

Putting a drop of water on CA works as an accelerant too. Remembe,r the curing agent for CA is water. It's the only way that I got my WM Screaming Bell to stay together.

The problem with that is that the bond isn't as strong, and with the contact point being so small the spears cant get wobbly. It's a problem that only copious amount of swearing and frustration can fix. :P Either that or a humidifier.

you just need to sweat more Dave. I know that you're a machine and everything, but you must have a setting somewhere that you can change?

There'll be no sweating at my place until April/May. I keep the thermostat at a spot that makes the Gulags look warm.

I finished up the spear hafts and leather this past week and started in on the red again. I'm hoping it'll go quicker than last time, as I now know not to highlight it until after the decals are on the shields.

Image

Aside from the red all that's left is the hair, decals, touchup and basing. It'll be tight but I should be able to get them done before next Saturay's game up in New Hampster.

After some additional paint sessions (made possible to a hurt wrist and subsequent lack of the ability to climb) the second pokey brigade is all painted up. They're currently sitting in some water to loosen the glue so I can take them off the cardboard and base them up tonight. Not sure if I'll be able to complete the basing tonight what with drying times and what not but either way they'll be ready to go for tomorrow's WM day.

Image

The decals were easier this time around as I saved the shield highlights until after they were on. I'm pretty happy with how all the designs came out but thing the white hawk is my favorite due to the amount on contrast with the red.
