Are there any rules sets out there which deal with a handful (say, around four) WWII vessels in action, in reasonable detail? I have Shipwreck (which deals with modern and is not so detailed) and Harpoon (which is modern, but has the right kind of detail involved).

Does anyone know of any rules which cover this?

Thanks.

Haven't played Harpoon, so I'm not quite sure what you mean by reasonable detail, but Seekrieg would probably fit the bill.

I've played another game (been a while, and the name is escaping me) that was a little lighter on detail but gave a very reasonable game.  track your ammo expenditure carefully, as most cruisers only have enough ammo on board for 6-8 turns of firing full volleys!  Game was put out many, many years ago by Alnavco, and has been OOP for probably longer than I've been alive!

I mean, do you want to play the RL captain, who will know where the fire is, how many casualties, etc, or do you want to fight your ship?

Or do you want to fight your Squadron?

General Quarters is a good set of rules for larger games, with many details of each ship abstracted.

If you want Harpoon level detail, go for either Seekrieg or "Command at sea" by Clash of Arms which is very much a ww2 version of Harpoon and now in its 3rd Edition.

Thanks guys. I was looking at reasonably detailed rules, so Seakrieg or Clash of Arms sounds good.

Thanks for the offer Tas. This is probably another one of my phases... I will see how long it lasts and then investigate Clash of Arms later.

For uber detail Seekrieg is the way to go.

No more than a handful of ships on the board for the sake of your own sanity... :D
