So who knows why they are called the Axis powers and no cheating looking it up online!

Actually, yes. The name indeed comes from the so-called "Berlin-Rome axis" that was formed when Hitler and Mussolini signed a co-operation agreement between Germany and Italy. The term refers to countries who actually signed said agreement (Japan, for example) but is used in common talk as a blanket term for all countries who at some point or another were on German side.

Pretty sure it was Mussolini who first used it - him, or another of his countrymen, anyway.

Personally,I think it's pretty cool that this kid is getting interested in history through his wargaming; entertainment and education in one easy package - beats under-age drinking and shoplifting in my book...

I'm pretty sure you're correct. I'm almost positive that it was the "Rome-Berlin axis", not the other way around, which makes me believe that it was either Mussolini or one of his cronies who coined the term.

I believe you are correct ... On both accounts ...  Some of the Boys on TMP have a "superiority complex" !

See I thought it was another Fascist leader/notable who coined it and El Duce nicked it, as the only thing he was original at was how to get ready for war by doing the opposite (I mean who really sells off the armies gear prior to sabre rattling?).
