Ok guys here is another beauty of a armamentsinminiature 15mm aircraft.

This planes is used in my own American FOW army.

It took me over a week to finish it and I learned some good lessons from painting it.

The first lesson is that I will NEVER paint invansion stripes again.  To hard on my nerves... :p

The other lesson is also valuable. I don't have to stick with 100% historical.  It's more important to be pleased with the end result.

For example I read that for this unit the upper body was painted camo pattern and the bottom remained factory metal finish.

In the end I did it the way the Osprey book told me but I think the plane would have looked better with a grey underside.  I just don't like using mass metallaic paints.

Also, for the decals I had in hand the unit is the 62nd Fighter Squadron/56th Fighter Group/8th AF.

This unit marked aircraft with a yellow rudder.  In the end I tried painting it that way, several times, but it just kept looking ugly.  I went to red and it looked good, if not right.  Oh well.

The final result is I'm going to listen to painter and use the history has a 98% bench mark.

So onto the pictures right... :D

May I introduce the "Mad Michelle"

Top view.  It looks like most things ended in the right place.

I completely agree Luis, if you dont like the look, it will never be right. ?And there were so many field mods and unauthorised changes in the field that your particular scheme was probably used anyway!

I think "Mad Michelle" ?looks great - now get her into action so you can paint some kill markers under the canopy!  :D

Excellent. Since I have eight of these coming shortly in the mail - four of these bubble canopies (in P47D) and four Razorback versions (in P47B), along with four Fw190As and four Fw 190Ds - but in 6mm (!), I am taking notes.  :p

Thanks for the nice comments guys,

Hey CS,

So you can learn form my errors. ?Someone made this comment on the TMP. ?Looking back at the reference pictures it seems very obvious now

"Looks nice?..just a small nit pick ? too many stars and bars. It only needs one on the top of the left wing and the bottom of the right. But don't worry, made the same mistake when I did my first US plane a long time ago ?:) "

Hi. Somehow, working at 6mm, I dont think that my problem will be TOO MUCH detail!  :D

Nice Thunderbolt, CC. The last time I painted invasion stripes, I taped the model to get straight lines. It worked great, but I was working in 1/48th scale. I'm not sure if you could tape a 15mm mini.  :D

I did use the blue painters tape for the stripes.  But it was still nerve racking.

Nice looking Birds ! Paint job works for me !  Yeah, I'd think Invasion Stripes would be a bit challenging to paint !  :)
