Well so far I quite like it. Not got through all the sections yet but you have to like the production values. Now if the quick ref sheets get posted on there web site I can give it a test game. The last 3 pages of my book were dogged to death

So, for the complete newb to historicals, do they seem easy to learn? Does the turn sequence get bogged down in details or does it flow quickly?

Hi. The production quality is good enough to really help anyone new to the game. The book is very useful. The sections are well defined, and the margines are coded by colour, and also have a list of the sections in the margin, with the current one bold. This means that you should be able to find the page and section that you need fairly easily.
There are five phases to each turn - impact phase, movement, shooting, close combat, end phase.
This should be fairly familiar to most players. The impact phase exists to differentiate between combat troops such as cavalry and Roman Legions. The cavalry to well on the charge (impact phase) but the Romans do better in drawn out combat (melee).
There are also several good examples and illustrations, as well as a combat report over a couple of pages which is useful.
I hope that this helps.

Just another update on 28mm plastics for those who like historicals...
As well as the Republican Romans from Wargames Factory, there's now a new company with Early Imperial Romans and Celts - and the Legionary on their website looks very nice indeed...(better then Wargames Foundry's 'chunkier' offerings, IMHO).
It's called Warlord Games and is being run by ex-GW staffers Stallard and Sawyer. Here's a link: Warlord Games Regards, Reaver

Well those came outta nowhere. I couldn't find details on how many figures per box or price on their site. I wonder what the damage to my gaming budget will be.
