Hi all,

I'm a fan of Warmaster Ancients and some other members of my local club have been lured into it by me (I've always played historicals in addition to sci-fi) and I cut my teeth on ancients when I started wargaming years ago.  So, thought I'd introduce myself and maybe get the ball rolling.

Has anyone started tinkering around with home-brew army lists?

Michael

Welcome!!!

All gaming is good!

I have almost all the WAB books but I don't have any armies. ?I found a freind who has more than enough armies so I just plan to mooch of him.

I find to suppliment to be real good because they are lostly done by people who have a real passion for whatever era they are dealing in.

I really love the Fall of the West, Shield Wall, and Byzantine.

I swore long ago to not buy ancient or fantasy armies because once I started I would never stop.

But I never made a rule on playing... ? :D

So send pf pictures, battlereports, general musing we'll take it all

Hi Cuban Commissar,

I play Warhammer Ancient Battles too.  Sadly, I have more unfinished armies than I do finished ones.  Started a Macedonian army for the Alexander supplement and a Republican Roman one for the new Hannibal supplement.  Plus a Han Chinese army still in its box waiting for me to find time.  Ah, the fun of wargaming.

For Warmaster, I play in 6mm rather than 10mm.  As I said, at my local club, we've got a few older gamers bringing out their figures and excited to play ancients again.  I'll try to remember to take photos next time we play.

Best wishes,

Ng

Hi GeneralNg - guess what I bought yesterday? The Warmaster ancients rulebook! Looks great - havn't had time for a read yet. I liked the couple of games of Warmaster (fantasy) I played, and this looks even better. I'm only starting out on historicals, with stuff as varied as Legends of the West ( a FUN set of rules, and excellent models from Foundry), ECW from Warhammer Ancients (no models yet), and ACW ships for Hammerin' Iron II. Oh, and DBA and 15mm Dacians. FOr 10mm I'm undecided between elephants and armoured camels..... :D

You'll notice that that is a common theme around here!  :p  :D

Welcome to the boards, General.   As CC says, all gaming is good. We might not play WMA, but we're more than happy to look at pics of your armies.  :;):

Hi Michael,

My local gaming group, MWS, is mostly playing HOTT, but games of Warmaster Ancients are also creeping in. We like both.

Since both games use fixed base sizes, minaiture scale isnt important. We have 6mm, 10mm and 15mm armies playing.

You can find photos of our DBA, HOTT and Warmaster Ancients games here:

Hi Michael.

How is the club at UCL going?
Am still going to Legion in Shepherds Bush- would be nice to see you if UCL club closed during uni breaks.

Have got a few games of Epic in, most recently agianst Jim's Chaos. Jim is really keen to get into Warmaster Ancients- it won't take much persuasion for him to start painting the figures he bought at last year's Salute.

What Warmaster Ancients armies do you play?

Cheers

James

I just started using Warmaster Ancients with Napoleonics using the NapoleonicsMaster II supplement. Some of the Warmaster Ancients action (such as it is) is going on over at the Yahoo groups forum historical-warmaster. Rick Priestly is there and he sometimes answers questions or talks about upcoming stuff, like the Warmaster Ancients Army Lists book that is coming out (no date yet that I saw).

Hi!

It seems to be a good ruleset and have heard a lot of positive comments about.

Like Epic, you don't have absolute control over your troops. You can fail activations like in Epic, but they tend to be larger in scale with Warmaster (i.e affects more units).

I also like the Drive Back mechanism, which makes missile fire different than simply "killing the same as in melee, only at a distance". People say the skirmishers are out of whack, but I haven't played enough to experience it yet.

I have a Warmaster Chaos army and I am seriously thinking about collecting a 6mm Napoleonics army and using the base sizes in WMA (40mm by 20mm) as they seem to be fairly standard with other rules (just in case I want to switch rules every so often).

Hi @all,
this is no advertising , but you may have a look , I intend to start playing Ancients as well , so I found this modeller.

Maybe an alternative to Irregular and Heroic?

Cheers!

I've got some Baccus macedonian samplers for an army I never built and they are very good quality, much better than Irregular.

Everything I have seen of Baccus (in photos) is good quality. I am buying some Napoleonics from the U.S. distributor (Heritage Studios). There is also a Canadian distributor, Militus Minimus.

Hi Guys,

The owner of Baccus is a friend of mine and I'll vouch for him. Peter is one heck of a nice guy and he sells a fine product.

Hi,

I've ordered both Warmaster Ancients and Legends of the Old West this week. Hopefully they'll capture my imagination more than most GW games are at the moment.

My club buddies already have a lot of ancients/napoleonic-era armies (in various scales) that I've always wanted to face, but I've never been a fan of larger scale ancients minis (25mm+), so WMA is quite attractive to me. Standard Warmaster is great, but the fantasy WH side of it puts me off buying more. Now I just have to decide which period I want to build an army for. ???

LotOW seems to have had a good reception in online reviews, so I'm hoping it will be fun. I watched the last few turns of a trial game a few weeks ago at our club and it seemed like I should enjoy it. Plus it's another game that won't take up a lot of space to play, which is always a bonus. :D

Cheers,
Freshmetal
