The idea has been floating around for ages, but it was Dwarf Supreme, his pictures and advice that final gave me the courage to give it a try. I dedicate this thread to him and hope the information herein proves useful. :)

Thanks for the dedication. :) I hope this thread inspires others.

Primarch: Yeah theres a lot of possibilities with magnets ! :) I need someone to design a new titan support arm with a place for a small magnet..

You can get 1mm (thick) x 2mm (diameter) magnets. I tend to use two of these (poss to neg) rather than one and a steel plate. Cutting the metal out seems like a lot of work and the magnets are not expensive (50 for about £3.50 on ebay).
I've mostly used them in 40k and Flames but have seen many people use them on Super Heavies etc, it adds a lot of versitility and helps when packing models away too.

Hi!

I may get a smattering of these to experiment.

I particularly like the donut shaped magnets and the rod shaped ones, since I could insert one in the other.

We'll see. :)

I've found that the magnets are so powerful, particularly when using two together, that you don't need them to be lined-up, or guided together. They simple click straight into place.
In my experience I've never had an issues with them and find them very easy to do.
I guess it depends slightly on what you're using them for though.

Hi!

I saw that. The attraction was so powerful that it ripped a glued magnet right off! ;D

I will try with very small ones. The attraction is so strong on the ones I have that if they are the same on smaller ones it should be no problem.

While one magnet fits in the holes on the titan, how would you fasten the one on the weapon? Drill a little hole? or just glue? I would think on a very small one a small drill hole placing one would be manageable.

Hmm magnets are great but for my taste those are way too big and not very good looking on the titan. What I did for my warlord, was that I used 3 mm diameter and 1 mm thick magnets. That size is exactly the size of the titans own weapon holes so they fit perfectly. Also they are easily powerful enough to stay on the titan and movable.

Also they dont show too much outside. I will put some pics on another thread. Good job though! Magnets are cool cuz they give you so much choose to arm your titans.

Hi!

If I am not off my math by much 3mm x 1mm would be 1/10 inch diameter by 1/32 inch. Correct?

I'm placing an order of these. They are super cheap (10 for under a dollar). I also got me a drill that does small holes so I'll be experimenting with them soon.

With proper tool (a 3-hole punch), it was a piece of cake.

Hi!

I agree, punching the holes was trivially easy. I did 8 in about a minute. :)

Not something i've tried yet, but i have a set of 3*1mm lined up to use. I have a question though:
how well does this work for the bulkier metal weapons?
Parts such as the power ram and the assorted missile launchers are presumably fine, but what would you do for a corvus (as those are pretty hefty lumps and stick out a way from the join)?

Hi!

I know the ones I used in the tutorial are strong enough for the weapons you mentioned much more besides. I have yet you test the smaller ones. I will be ordering some and experimenting with them.

If the binding strength is anywhere near the ones I have, it should be no problem.

I will post my findings (with pictures), once I have them. :)

My magnets easily hold a Corvus Assault Pod. I've found that there's no need to use the arm joint.
