Yeah it's kinda rad in some respects if you think about it Ben: You get to do the fun designing work; John's left to be bored running a business and keeping the books! ;D

I think they scaled back their original ambitions and are aiming for a shorter film, maybe 20-30mins or something? GW have endorsed it but on the basis no money is made, so they're all doing it for free (though if it's successful perhaps involvement in a project like this might help their future careers).

I had a look at their website for the film and surprisingly they're aiming to release the full film next year.

Good to see things have improved for you Ben and that you're back designing models again :)

Well doing the whole thing without a budget makes it a very tricky process, probably the reason why it took almost a decade to do this project.

As for larger funding, now that's a tricky part. If they'll go the crowdfunding campaign route, GW might step in and sue them. For GW to finance a bit project: not likely. Doing something at this level of quality is very pricy, and whilst the 40k market is big, it's not that big that it will guarantee GW will make back that money.

They would need studio financing - as you say, its an expensive process. My though is that if GW like the enough (and they liked it enough not to stomp on it and instead gave tacit support so far) they might be willing to licence it to a bigger studio to finish the job... Unlikely, but who knows at the moment ? Who would have expected them to kill off WH, bring back specialist games, restart comics, licence mobile games, start a facebook page, etc 18 months ago? They seem willing to try almost anything atm...

After what people said, I was expecting so much more. A lot of the early backdrops the 'hive' feel more Blade Runner and less Dark Future to me. Ths scenes in space and the animation of non-humanoid stuff was great, but the human motion capture wasn't particularly good, nothing in their movements (outside of some of the Space Marines) felt like it had weight or was attached to the scenery in any way, it seems like they're floating about at odd angles and speeds. And the dialog and facial capture... Well, yikes.

Sure it was low (no) budget, but that doesn't mean I can say it looked -good-, only "good, considering..." Yeah, there's definitely a ton of promise there with that level of enthusiasm for working on that project, but they need to violently and spectacularly murder the characters that got to speak and write and animate some better ones.

I liked it a lot but yeah, the lip syncing, dialogue and voice actors did let it down. That said all these 40k based stories do sit firmly in the pulp category for me so I can forgive it!

Cool movie! Allthough i didn't like the main character one bit. Felt like some kind of street wise bad cop instead of a fanatical Inquisitor...
But the animation where great!

Well, he certainly made me feel like I don't want the Inquisition to come looking. That's something I guess. :)

Well. This is the somewhat unanticipated consequence of the horrendous movie released by GW. Yes, it is not impressive by many standards. But still multiples better than anything before. Marines move like their bulk would suggest for one thing. I thought that would never happen. Jeez, titans move with less power projection in other official material. Sure, people have a weird pose suggesting a long overdue visit to the men's/womens/entities. But still. The parade scene is inspiring and the most entertaining capture of quasi-Catholics in Space thus far.

True enough! Although I can't help but imagine that those dreadnoughts were really pissed off being there...
