They have just started doing metal again. They are doing limited releases on old metal models on their 'made to order' gimmick they brought out this weekend. Always the chance they will start making new metal again if they it proves popular enough.

You know the made to order thing was announced the day after i wrote that! :-) Typical ! ;-)

You're right, they might do it for "specialist" stuff aimed at older gamers who (mostly) can be trusted not to put it in their mouths and have a good chew. Would be the best option for small scale infantry.

I'd be shocked if they do anything around epic and if so, it certainly would not be infantry. Best bet would actually be BFG which sells at silly prices for the battleships and chaos escorts.

Sorry, wasn't clear. What i meant was they might continue to do metal casting again for new lines rather than do cast on demand for epic.

My impression was they intended to phase out metal all together when the few lines they couldn't get to cast in fine cast (some might say that was all of them) were discontinued. This sounds like an excuse to keep a small number of casting machines and operators ticking over working in metal in order to keep the facility and skill base available in case they need it for small run products. This might just limited ed or promotion casts, but it might also be for specialist games. Perhaps the star players for the new BB will be in metal...? If so, small amounts of infantry for the AT game would surely work better in metal than resin?

Are they actually casting new metal, or did they just find a stash of old stuff they want to get rid of? They're selling them at old price points.

Finecast was a disaster for minis originally meant for metal casting. I don't know what the differences are, but those always seemed to have issues while figures that were designed after Finecast's debut seemed alright. Is GW still releasing new Finecast minis?

Tin is still a lot more expensive than it was before 2005, but it's off of its 2011 peak. Maybe metal makes sense again.

I think new Finecast has been stopped for a year or so now (an Internet search would presumably reveal the exact date; I think people on Warseer and Dakka Dakka have been keeping track)—all new character models, for example, have been plastic, like the new Eldrad. It seems their strategy was to phase out metal and Finecast entirely in favour of plastic and Forgeworld resin.

Until the recent changes, I was always under the impression that metal casting was only old lines (like Sisters of Battle), but the Lord of the Rings SBG seems to be connected with these new rumours of metal casting.

That's what I observed with Finecast quality too, @carlismo109 (though Australia had terrible troubles with quality most of the time, apparently because they sent several batches of failed-tests here for retail...).

I could see the LotR stuff popping up with some metal as a stop -gap until FW can get it fully going. It was nice to see some new stuff at the last whatever that they did last month. Pictures around on dakka if anyone cares to dig.

On their Facebook page, Black Library have been teasing some cover art for next year's publications: it looks like we'll see some AT-related stories next year!

Adeptus Titanicus will make it's return in late 2017. They were hoping for summer, but pushed it back to have everyting, Titans, Vehicles and Infantry ready. It will be 8mm though, so it will be interesting to see how it fits.

BlodBowl and Lordof The Rings have both been MASSIVE hits upon their return, trailblazing more re-releases.

I wasn't that impressed with BB when I saw it in the store. Admittedly the staff hadn't painted any of it, just set out the contents. The humans and orcs left me really cold. I loved the old plastic humans and orcs as they had an elegant simplicity. The new stuff seems way too busy for me

BoLS is also reporting that, because of the runaway success of Blood Bowl (which everyone except GW could have predicted), Adeptus Titanicus is being given a bigger budget, which may enable at least the base titan chassis to be plastic instead of resin.

That could significantly improve sales of the initial release.
