@Blip I think the new management team seems to be strongly correlated with an approach that's closer to the successful GW of old (or any company that actually cares about what its market wants :P). Companies (and countries, people, Lawn Bowls Associations, et c.) can and do change tack very rapidly at times—worth noting, I agree, but I think it's important to celebrate the good things about the change. The change is bizarre perhaps not so much because of the about-turn, but that they were acting so strangely for the last years!

I would add that their new direction is not entirely the same as in days of yore, too. They may be a lot more sensible and looking to the successful past model for inspiration, but they are definitely different now; alas, some of the ways they go are still not to my tastes, but c'est la vie!

Titans!

Heh-heh, nice.

Seriously though, GW's change of tack has been recent enough that it's hard to say how it's affecting the bottom line in anything but the short term.

I for one am happy to see the Specialist Games coming back - including our beloved Titanicus - so I hope it pays off for them. From what I've heard, Blood Bowl has been an unexpected success.

Blood Bowl, an unexpected success...

Wasn't that what they said about Space Hulk?

I'd have expected Blood Bowl to be a success.

I'd quit playing any other wargames then epic and sold off my other models, but if they do a good job on a goblin team (both in terms of models and rules) then I am toying with getting back into it.

@epic - Im only getting info from news articles (cant afford GW! :-)), but Cadia and biel tan being destroyed, Magnus turning up and trashing fenris, a faction of death-wish eldar emerging which units the 3 tribes away from kaine, awakening the god of death and helping wake up the papa smurf after a 10k year snooze. Sounds like the biggest fluff change since ive been playing, but you must have high expectations ! ;-p

Haha A little yes, papa smurf spent days in the throne room, why did they not talk about he emperor more ! Nothing has been said about him for decades, even the artwork is old now and outdated, they should let some fluff out about what he looks like now also. :)

Yes magnus, typical gw throw him back into the warp so he can be pulled back at some point, ;D

But what is "short-term" in your opinion? Because from what I've seen, it isn't short-term to me, GW's been doing well and only getting better since AoS was released.

Blood Bowl was always a success, being the best game GW has created.

A more ardent Fantasy fan might suggest the only way possible from AoS was up. ;)

A true fantasy fan should be happy for the improvements starting right after the End Times.

No true Fantasy fan would say that! Or was that a Scotsman...? :P

Perhaps a discussion of the merits and demerits of the AoS system could be started up in a new thread? I'm always interested to hear learned options :) I think that it missed a few points in game design that already existed in GW material (e.g. LotR:SBG precedents), but I think the important thing is that it's just a different model/game of Fantasy. Fortunately, there are groups that continue to work on the old WFB engine so that people can continue to use a refined ruleset of that ilk.

In terms of the aesthetic and story direction: whilst it would have been nice if the relatively unique old WFB style had continued (for all its, erm, outside influences ;) it was its own thing), AoS has a very distinctive style of its own, which looks quite interesting on its own merits (even if it's not one's favourite choices). Perhaps another thread could be started to discuss the art theory behind both styles if someone disagreed? I would find that interesting and informative!

As always, however, Titans. And airships.

D'awww, did my smiley hurt poor Splash's feelings? It was a playful, harmless joke. You might want to grab a cookie, I think your blood sugar's getting low and you're getting cranky for it.
