@Alf O'Mega (and anyone else with an opinion)

A longer bridge is in the works. Questions:

1. The current clearance under the bridge is ~4.5mm which is plenty for the epic canal which is ~3mm thick. But with a longer bridge should it be more (baring in mind to keep the angle of the ramp the same with more clearance would require the bridge to become even bigger and thus more expensive the higher the clearance gets)

2. The requested span seems to be ~15cm...is this long enough for most?

3. At 15cm the current design looks wrong (with no support in the middle it looks like an impossible bridge - it would collapse if something drove over it) so i am going to make the design have truss sides....probably Double Warren, Pennsylvania or Bowstring - whatever looks best. This makes the bridge right, but uses more material and cuts...so again more cost.

4. Currently the bridges are 5cm wide - which is a 4 lane road in 6mm or 2 lane in 15mm. I've had some requests to make the bridge 7cm wide for larger vehicles....that would make it incompatible with the road though...i see a couple of options:
a. Make the bridge 8cm wide and have a pair of optional guard rails, similar to the current bridge side, that can go on to both sides of the road on the bridge to create a 5cm road and 2x 1.2cm foot paths either side of the road. For customers who want a 7cm road on the bridge leaving the guard rails off would give you a 7cm width.
b. Make 2 bridge bases using the same sides (this increases my costs from a design time and at least one of those would probably have to be made to order).
c. Just make one or the other....in which case which?

(a) would increase the material and cuts again, (b) would probably increase costs less...

When i say increase costs, we currently sell 6mm scale bridges at £6 for 2. Without the truss sides, and keeping the width to 5cm it would most likely be £6 for 1 of these larger bridges. But i think it will look very wrong...not a good piece.

Adding the trusses to make the bridge look 'right' will probably be an increase of ~£4-£6

Making the bridge wider with optional guard rails will probably add ~£4-£6

Question is: what are you guys willing to pay and what sounds best?

Thanks for taking the time to think all this through but I think I'm probably going to end up building something myself after giving you dimensions!!! My board actually has the rivers cut down into one inch foam so you wouldn't want to produce anything with trusses that would directly suit me - I guess I'm looking for something sort of viaduct style perhaps? I've actually just googled "Golden Gate Bridge" - now that's a bridge that looks like it's defying the laws of physics!!!

And yes 7cm does look a little wide but my roads are sculpted with possible 10mm scale in mind - all in all quite a bespoke requirement from me!!!!

I think I've talked myself out of it...

No worries...but not sure on your point about the 1 inch foam.

A bowstring truss bridge looks like the below (i was planning on having the bow arch higher though)

What's the possibility of including mounting points as details on the bridge and then include simple Y-topped supports that join into a straight pylon all the way down that could easily be cut to whatever suitable length?

Ah.... Trusses.... Now I see, in which case that could be fine. As you were.

hmmm - anything is possible....with only 4.5mm clearance you wouldn't need a pylon/pier under the bridge....it could be an optional add on though....but probably for a much bigger bridge (this isnt the golden gate bridge we are talking about here :) )

As promised and available now: a larger 6mm scale bridge. This is both wider and longer than the Epic bridge we sell in a 2 pack. (About twice as long and twice as wide). However, it remains compatible with our modular road system as the bridge features a 5.5cm wide road and 2x 1.5cm wide walkways divided by barrier.

Leaving these barriers off allows the full width of the bridge to be used for larger scales (such as 10mm or 15mm).

The bridge is 22cm long, 10cm wide and 6.5cm high.

Priced at £12 each and available at: http://www.honeybeeworks.co.uk

Might this topic gather more attention in the Terrain section of the board?

Latest addition to the 6mm building line. A Genatorium (power station)

By far the most complex I have designed to date, it has some 'shield generator' inspired cooling vents on the sides and a lot of detail (even has a keypad on the door). Gothic style vents and cog shaped chimneys.

Dimensions: 8cm tall, 10cm wide and 7cm deep.

On sale now for £7: http://honeybeeworks.co.uk/products/6mm ... er-station

We've also lowered our shipping prices again so the US/Canada should be much cheaper. Europe and UK have also gotten slightly cheaper.
