Hi guys,

I have been thinking alot recently about trying to set up a Specialist Games orientated podcast - looking mostly at EPIC, BFG, Necromunda, Warmaster, and Mordheim. There is definitely a gap in coverage and I think it would help to bind together the rather disparate communities that are still keeping these games alive. I don't really have much experience in this area beyond listening, but I would welcome any thoughts or suggestions (I've put a post up here if you want to comment etc - https://epicaddiction.wordpress.com/…/podcasting-specialis…/ ).

I think it could be a really good resource for sharing campaigns, rule developments, proxy models, looking back at old material etc etc.

Let me know what you think

I think this is a great idea. I'd quite like to hear some of these for Net Epic as I think it would be great for explaining what is happening with the various projects that are not long underway; hopefully people may find it informative and potentially it could draw more people into contributing.

No matter what was being discussed about Epic, I'd give it a listen! ;)

That sounds a great idea, I was only wondering the other day if there was an epic podcast I could listen to while painting.

Thought about it on and off, asked a few of the UK epic tournament scene if they'd be interested in recording but not got any real interest from them.

I think the effort required may be high enough that a regular stream could be hard to maintain, but most importantly I think it'd be good to consider the audience - existing players, general wargamers? For the existing crowd there are some topics that might lend themselves well to the format IMO. In particular a suite of tactics episodes (with guest players of course) would be good - most other stuff I think is better on the forum.

I used to do a wargaming related podcast. I did a good few episodes, but didn't release everything.

I guess the biggest question is if you're going to be making the podcast over skype, or only with locals. There are positives and negatives to each.

Then you need to look at the scope of the podcast, as others have mentioned. There are a lot of wargaming podcasts that have terrible scope. Like they really don't know why they're there. Then there are podcasts that have pretty great scope like Heelanhammer and the D6generation.

HeelanHammer is very focused on warhammer and has been forever, while D6 in its early days was deliberately "game of the Month' with the occasional look backs at other things.

A specialist games podcast focused on the old GW ips could go over very well. The problem of course is that there is never any news from the company, so you'd want to cover a lot of the rules development stuff, and the alternative models stuff.

I would definitely listen to this. I am an outright beginner when it comes to EPIC gaming though.

Thanks for the response guys - there is no point just trying to set it up by myself without know what people think / want.

I think that that would be one of the main points of it - drawing out those people quietly working away on rules revisions / expansions and giving them a platform to draw other people in and explain why it is they are doing what they are doing.

Yeah, I agree that audience is important. Given the kind of content that seems feasible, existing specialist gamers seems to be core, with a focus on both experienced vets of each game but also trying to interest people in the other ones / providing intros to them.

I think this is true - the content is static form the point of view of GW not releasing anything. However there are two things that I think could keep it fresh - one is the current rules development going on across all of the games systems, whether its updating or creating new expansions etc, and the second is that there is a LOT of old content that people are likely to be unfamiliar with (think Ash Wastes for Necromunda...)
