OK guys, lets play nice. Anyone can make a request of me and the site. It doesn't mean that I will do everything, but requestng is fine and may highlight things that I am unaware of.

As for the side banners, I guess that fixed side width would cause problems for people on lower res monitors as they would then squeeze the centre panel even further.

The top banner is staying, I am afraid.

To be fair there is a little bit of space above the banner that could potentially be reclaimed, especially if the user stuff could go somewhere else.

the banner pic being a link back to the main page would be good

also, can you make it so cliking in the side panel will send us to 'unread posts'? because that would be awesome

the site mapper above the banner pic is barely readable - could that font just be in white or something? It's not like you're reading paragraphs of it.

likewise , could the user control panel come down onto the buttons bar under the banner pic? because again, that'd save some space.

this is a big-ass banner

change it yourself, it takes a couple of seconds:

Setting custom local CSS for Taccom example – Assuming you are using chrome:

1 get this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... pgmdaleoha
2 go to http://www.taccmd.tacticalwargames.net/ click the little 'css' icon in the right of the chrome adress bar
3 this opens up a css editing panel, ignore it all and click "Edit CSS" at the bottom.

4 copy and paste this into the edit css box:
Code:
#wrapper {
    padding-top: 0;
}

5 click save. Taccom's banner is now hidden.

repeat with relevant modifications for text colour, text column width etc.

local css modification for main text colour (brighter/higher contrast), same method as above but paste in this as well/instead:
Code:
html,body { color: #DADADA;}
textarea {color: #DADADA;}
.postdetails{color: #DADADA;}
.quotecontent{color: #DADADA;}
.attachcontent,{color: #DADADA;}

sets most of the core text to a brighter grey

*edited for stupidity

Safari and IIRC Firefox also allow you to load custom CSS as well.

I just noticed this, but it would probably be more useful if the Board/Thread information was below the banner, rather than above. It would also make more sense from a hierarchical perspective.

Got lucky... xmas pressy ! (my old 18 is now my second)

As for side bars, can that be a flexible width rather than a fixed width.
That way it would take into consideration the size of the window its opened in.
say its takes up 10% of the window width, with a minimum size to ensure that important parts are still visible

I have seen it done but no idea how.

If it cannot be done its not a huge thing, after all the forum is still here and that's whats important

What, like this?

Again, you can just do it yourself, see my posts above, set the relevant widths to 90% or something instead of the forced 950px they are currently. Would take a bit of tidying to neaten it all up with that (eg, if you want the header and footer nav to scale with it), but the basic edit is just one or two attribute changes. Likewise if you have a tiny screen just set width attributes for stuff to 750 or 700px.

were it not for the fact i now work from home, I'd be looking at doing a corporate skin option. You know, blues whites, something engineering in the background...

Seconded. You've done a fantastic job on the new site already, mate—I love the new look-and-feel—and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it develop further into the future. :)

Any chance we can get the user name on a post to link to a profile again?
