How techie do you want?

Short answer - fcgid Max Request Length default was set too low, effectively meaning that the server timed out larger upload php requests, leading to small images working, and large ones not.

Needed to reset the max and restart Apache.

Has the requirements changed for posting images? I now receive the notation that images must not exceed 640 x 640 pixels rather than a file size. I had no problem with posting my previous pictures but it would appear they now exceed this limit.

I may have changed a setting. I will look into this.

I haven't forgotten about this. I have been able to upload attachments at above 640 x 480 directly to a post.

The board just shrinks the image and I don't get any message.
Can you give me the details of what you were trying to do?

I use the post reply button (not the quick reply). The screen then gives me the option to browse and upload attachments. When i do this the message that the attachment must be between 0 and 640 pixels high and wide appears in red.It also tells me that my attachment is 953 pixels x 715 pixels. This didnt happen in the past. Previously the attachment was restricted to a file size not pixels.

That is strange, as my picture attachment is 950x869 and I go through the same steps to upload it. The boards should be set to shrink larger attachments to not throw the window width out.

So, the boards don't even let you upload a picture because it is too large in pixels?

Thats right . Its only a recent problem within the last 2 weeks.

OK, in theory, you should now be able to post pictures of any size, and all images should display as a clickable thumbnail. If any of this is not happening, let me know.

I got a similar warning when using img tags generated form photobucket. So I just applauded small photos

Linked images and uploaded images are two seperate things.

Uploaded - These should be able to be uploaded at any size picture, but displayed as a clickable thumbnail.
Linked - There is a limit of 640x640 for linked pictures. If these are too small, just upload a copy of the picture directly.

The problem is it is now impossible to edit any post that previously had a linked 650px+ image in it, unless you go back and changes all the images as well. You cannot submit the change if there are still links to larger images, even though they were permissible when the post was first made. So a simple edit means re-uploading or resizing all the images. Which is annoying as i made most of mine 800px wide over the last couple of years
