Grateful for your thoughts on the effect of shooting at broken formations. We thought this was nice and clear until we read the rules again..
For many years we have assumed that, when a formation is broken, it doesn't get a save if shot at. So, 3 shots at a broken formation = four automatic kills (the additional one reflecting the blast marker taken just for being shot at). This makes any shooting at broken formations deadly.
However, the question came up again due to a new Necron army arriving on the table (some of the smaller formations being regularly broken).
Anyway, a re-read of the rules confirms that you only take auto kills for each blast marker inflicted. So, you get a BM for being shot at = one auto kill. However, the suggestion is that the broken formation are allowed to take a save against any hits. However, if they suffer any casualties, then an additional model is removed for each failed save (to reflect the blast marker inflicted by the kill).
Grateful for your thoughts !
Phil

Thank you for the quick reply - much appreciated. Now our formations will no longer live in fear of enemy aircraft taking pot shots..
Interesting how your preconceptions can be wrong !
Thanks again, Phil
