Nothing to do with clustering - that works well.

Basically it's not really viable to plot more than 500 points on the map with the current system. Doing so takes too long and impacts resources too heavily while doing so. Even with 500 points I'm caching, and that cache has to be manually rebuilt periodically (i.e. after new players sign up).

Because cache is not rebuilt immediately, visitors get confused as to why they can't see their pin after signing up. Also, they don't always realise the map is only showing the last 500 players.

So I have a UX problem, and a resource issue preventing me from solving it using the current configuration.

The solution would be to drastically reduce the number of markers shown at any one time by limiting map zoom level. For this to be useable I need map co-ordinates to dynamically load from the DB, and display markers on map scroll, similar to AirBnB. Unfortunately I don't currently have the knowledge to implement such a system.

I also fell for the 500 users limit, thinking that i myself and many others disappeared, but i think that the solution is more about graphical design than coding related.

My suggestions:
- Exchange the place for both lines of text about the 500 limit (the bigger above and the smaller below the map) and make something about the line about joining up stealing all the attention from it by moving it to another place where it can be easy to see but its not close to the 500 line (above ''Find Wargame Players'' and in a bigger font or making the green band 50% wider could be good).
- Or make more noticeable the list of games (the ideal would be to put it inside the map in an expandable tab but closer to it is enough), or even better make a hint about that there is more below as there is more than the list of games, but i haven't found an idea about this last one.
- Third option would be to put the find by postal code or distance part above the games' list, as its less noticeable and can help more with this issue then the games' list, but on the other side the games' list is easier to see so it could help to move the people's attention downwards.

Are you asking for a submission form for pictures of GW minis?

Yes, but that gap is probably going to be filled soon so it doesn't matter much, and for now we can just e-mail you.

Thanks for the feedback Abetillo. The changes to the search / map you suggest might be a good interim solution.

And yes, you are more than welcome to email / message with painted model pics.

Maybe a "new proxies" feature, so we can see what is updated?

That's a good idea, rubblerlizard. I will be able to set that up pretty easily.

In the proxy pages, a simple text list (one item per line) would be easier to read than, say, the mass of rectangles in the Chaos infantry section.

"Epic 40k" in the top menu leads to what is functionally a different home page - I'd make sure the main home page covers everything and get rid of it. Put a link to "Get Started" in the top menu. The Get Started section is good, but you might point to net-armageddon.org for the rules (not sure, having them hosted in multiple places is always good), and to http://traitor-legion.appspot.com/ as a list-making tool. The most important thing is explaining the difference between NetEPIC and NetEA. That always comes up.

Thanks for your feedback, carlisimo. Yep, the proxy DB will be simplified somewhat - still mulling over how best to do it.

E40k section - this will stay but be better organised. The site started purely as Epic, then the player finder morphed into a more general tool to encourage 'cross pollination' (basically attempting to draw other players to Epic). Hence the home page is generallised, but I still have a defined Epic section.

Both the links you mention are included in multiple places in the Epic section, but the usability is lacking, as you haven't found them :P

Have you thought about having proxy lists for older games aswell? manowar, warmaster, bfg and so on?

It hasn't occurred to me, simply because I don't play / collect them. ;D Realistically I'm afraid I don't have the time to add another system; the amount of donkey work (entering miniature details, adding photos etc.) is signifcant.

I have made tentative steps towards planning a MiniWars Mk2, and if/when it happens I will streamline the proxy database from a management perspective + build in the ability to add systems more easily.

Hey you need to get the new AT 2018 game onto the categories asap. The FB groups are going crazy after this weekend and everyone's shouting for player finders

I'd love to, but the site is using an outdated version of the Google Maps API and I have no time to fix it. Currently it's likely that a lot of people wouldn't be able to register due to Google usage limitations.

Ideally the site needs to be rebuilt using modern tech and with a simpler mission i.e. just a player finder and possibly the Epic proxy database.

Until I can find someone that can help me develop an AirBnB style map in Wordpress, that job is at the back of the queue. I have checked for prebuilt themes, but the only decent ones are subscription based and probably wouldn't suit a wargame player finder anyway.

If there's anyone technical out there this is what's needed:
https://www.nopio.com/blog/airbnb-map-t ... act-rails/
Only in a dummy-proof Wordpress plugin instead of Ruby on Rails and React. I'd probably pay if someone could make something good.

The site still has issues when trying to add possible proxies to it. :(

I sent a load of links to new proxy products this week but have heard nothing back.

Can you try clearing your cache / trying a different browser?

I have them in my inbox - haven't had a chance to add them yet. 90 in the backlog!
