With all the great models out there from forum wear producers and 3rd party model makers quite a few of them have different weapon fit out than the standard Vehicle. For example I have some razorbacks with the old Las canon plasma gun turrets and some chimeras that have twin heavy bolter turrets. The question is would people simply use them as the standard vehicle or is there some lists out there that contains these standard varient vehicles?

The simple answer: BOTH!

Lets say we have the plasma razorback turrets you can use the codex list just fine and those could be your HB versions. However if you're running Iron Hands then those plasma would be actual plasma in that list. Your hobby time and dollars are stretched and you get more bang for the buck! Basically the core of the force tends to be largely the dame, quantity and list structure being the differing factor. That means you can run a modular force where you can play 2,3 or even 4 different lists without much extra collecting /painting.

However on the chimeras I don't think any of the lists use the HB version but that's a rarer situation.

I was thinking that you could find the equivalent weapon in any list and just use that. In most cases I think that it would balance out. For example going back to the chimera with the heavy bolter turret you lose the AT but gain a better AP. As long as your opponent knows in advance do you think that is unreasonable? Of course the razor back with the las cannon and plasma gun combo throws a spanner in the works as there is no evidence to any other weapon, I think your method Jimmyzimms will be fine for that.

Yeah I should have noted like you did that in friendly play someone using twin linked heavy bolter chimeras would.probably be fine with me
