Hi there!
Another good day, for some little house ruling, tailoring! The fun part is; this time I bring something from the past! Since I will post here something that I posted in another topic at an another section of the forum, some time ago, and also it refers to an even older stuff.
I think the reason is that I didn't receive any reaction to that idea, perhaps the different topic of that thread I posted it, and it got automatically ignored.
So here I copied my original post;
Quote:
Digging a bit in the 3th edition of Epic rulebook, I found there an interesting addition to overwatch.
In Epic 40.000 a formation (detachment) were allowed a 5 cm consolidation move along with going overwatch!
So I end up thinking what if E:A would had this rule. You order a formation Overwatch, and may choose to adjust a tiny bit here, and there to improve positioning. (for cover, for firing arc or anything)
Also it could be used to reorganize the 5 cm cohesion, which is a requirement for this order. This way a formation a bit loosened may still go into overwatch if it can reset it's cohesion with the 5 cm consolidation move.
(I just had a battle where it could be useful, as my garrisoning infantry lost cohesion due to artillery fire.)
Pre F.A.Q. for this;
-You may not move 5 cm after Garrison, they must hold the objective (1 unit must be in 15 cm)
-You may not move into enemy zone of control (obvious)
-You may not move 5 cm if the unit's movement speed is 0. (immobile)
-If you choose to NOT move, then the enemy may not fire it's overwatch upon you, otherwise it can!
I hope the old post pretty much sums up, what's this about, and how overpowered would overwatch become with this little buff, as a house rule of course. I might add the intention behind the rule; I found overwatch underused besides garrisoning, beacuse a formation completely loses its manouvre, which is a key to victory in Epic. Simply the zero movement restricts overwatch option, as when there is an opportunity to use it, the minis are just happen to be not standing at the exact cm accurate position to 100% utilize the order, weakening it so much that any other order become more optimal.
So finally here I am with the big question; What do you think about this idea?
PS.: And even Hit&Run units (like Eldar, Dark Eldar) may only take 5 cm move too just as the rest of the guys.
