I don't think that was the case, while it didn't have the fanfare of other games, even when epic was the 3rd 'core' game, it never got anything approaching an equal share of the sales that WFB and 40K did, regardless of how hard you push a game, if it only has a fringe appeal (to the standard more money than sense GW customers) then it won't sell enough
SG were profitable, but not profitable enough, GW weren't willing to go through the steps to spin-out a lower-margin sister company (like studio sparta), nor are they willing to sell licences to produce miniatures for their games, they kept the games alive and available for a long time, even when they weren't developing for them, I'm surprised they kept them alive as long as they did tbh
as has been said, the other 6mm companies are doing fine because they are small, they don't have a retail chain to support, and thousands of staff to pay, as well as a bunch of shareholders to please, DZC was done by a single guy! I believe DRM is a one-man operation, as are many other companies we all know and love
I'm not happy with what has happened, but I'm not surprised and I'm under no illusions that GW vindictively killed off specialist games just to spite everyone....
Bottom line, SG was about the games, GW are about the miniatures, SG may have been profitable, but they weren't profitable enough for GW, hell Epic has had 4 editions, it was hardly a 'churn and burn' game, thrown together and abandoned after 3 months.....
