typos:

http://www.net-armageddon.org/page/rules

the NetEA section keeps referring to the 'links above' or 'webpage linked above' - in all these cases above should be below.

--

the army list page has a link to epic-uk, and epic-fr but not to epic-dt or the traitor legion appspot army builder. (oh, i see the latter has a link on the 'other sites page' - fair enough)

Otherwsie, nice, clean layout. It'll do the job. great work.

this is a great step, a hearty slap on the back to all who contributed, I may be able to convince a few guys to take up epic by showing them this site, awesome stuff!

The Epic Resources page link is above and below MD, both work.

Love the site. Gotta say I hate the URL (it's not exactly intuitive), but love the site.

Looks good! Looking at the code though, I don't see any meta-tags at all. I think those can really help in getting the site out there when searching for Epic-related materials.

That's actually a misconception. The only meta tag utilized by search engines is the description, and that's what you see when the site pops up as a hit to your search. Keywords might matter one day, but right not all the algorithms look at is the title and content (specifically the headings).

I thought Google was still using them to a limited extent. I always hated the damn things anyway, and the fact that you could load the hell out of them to mislead search engines.

One of the reasons they're not utilized much.

Nice to see this up.

The biggest draws to google are simply the number of pages that link to it, I believe.

Yup, cross-linking == the big time. That's why wikipedia is so often the first hit.

Indeed. Google has always used cross-links as a metric, as it sees this as a 'vote' by another site that yours is good. It's another reason why Google really hits link-farm sites as well.

Last I heard, the best way to get good Google rankings wrt search terms was to have a core keyword in the url, meta-tag and utilised 5-10 times in the front page text. This shows a strong theme to Google and boosts ranking, along with previously mentioned cross-linking.

As for URL.... well, I will take the hit for that as it was really my only contribution (outside of the server itself). I undesrtand that it won't appeal to everyone, but it utilises 'armageddon' no copyright infringement and includes the 'net' moniker. Really, the site is the product of Kyrt and Dave, so a big thank you to them.

FWIW, I think the URL is the best compromise we had to satisfy:
1. the need to avoid copyrighted terms
2. the desire to retain some semblance of identifiability
3. availability
4. avoiding conflict with similar registered domains

As for page rank, basically we need it to be linked to. Everything else is just tinkering.
