Hey guys
I'm busy building my Tau force, and while reading the list I realized that anti air is much harder to come by and much less efficient per point here than in my usual eldar army.
Finding the skyrays a tad spensive, I've begun looking for another solution - combat air patrol. But my main airborne concern is not really bombers - it's thunderhawks and their deadly planetfall assaults. I'm thinking, after reading the rules, that the CAP are pretty powerless against that, as the intercept action is only activated on bombing runs, not on planetfall - is this correct?

You can't cap or even overwatch a planetfalling aircraft. You can overwatch the cargo as it exits however.

Alright; that's one plan down the drain =P
Guess I'll have to cash out the points for the skyrays then. Or is there a better solution?
Anyways - thanks for the quick answer Mephiston (o:

Skyrays won't work against planetfall either.
If, however, the thunderhawks come in on a normal transport run cap works just fine.

Thanks guys.

Yup, Tau really like to keep their opponents at 'arms length' to shoot them to bits as they advance; Marines planetfalling and teleporting on their flanks and rear is one of the Tau's worst nightmares. However, like all other races, they can make judicious use of scouts and mutually supporting formations to minimise the potential impacts.
