Hi all. I understand that there is an established 'Counts As' drive within the EA rules, which according to the text is mainly to allow players with collections including models that no longer have in game stats to utilise their entire collection, but I wanted to ask whether it is generally acceptible for armies of entirely old models to be used? Also regarding base sizes, given that the guide on the required sizes are faily broad, is it acceptible to mix different base sizes within an army?

For example, I have recently picked up one of the old Epic Ork Invasion boxes in really good condition, with 99% of the models neither painted nor based, and these are all on 20mm square bases. Is it permissable to mix Storm Boys on 20mmx20mm bases with Stormboys on 10mmx40mm bases within a single formation?

For the first question, yes entirely acceptable although there's also a 'drive' as you put it to make things consistent even if only internally consistent. For example, the old Eldar Warp Hunter (http://eldar.arhicks.co.uk/miniatures/o ... er_1_1.JPG) doesn't exist any more. So if you're using the model counting as say a fire prism, then it's best not to use other models for fire prisms too. Having said all this, it's up to your opponent what he puts up with! My knightworld army is a mix of Battletech and Gundam models for which I just say that the former are all Wardens and the latter are all Knight Paladins for instance. Easy to remember during the game.

As for base sizes it looks a bit messy on the table, but acceptable within the rules.

Thanks. Ideally I would rebase where possible to endure that all units within a formation at least have the same bases, even if there is variation within an army. Might have a look at that I think.

If the group that you are playing with doesnt care, what does it matter? I use a mix of old and new myself, though I try to keep the base shapes all the same in each unit.

Yup.

The models themselves are generally of lower quality, so your army won't look as cool IMO, but some enjoy that less detailed style...
