Post subject:  Epic: Hive (New supplement project)

I've started throwing around some ideas for a new supplement, named Epic: Hive, which will feature the Sisters of Battle, a modern-style Tyranid list and a Genestealer Cult.

The basic storyline I have so far is that a Ministorum outpost receives a distress call from a nearby Hive World, talking of a dangerous new religion and rumours of mutation. Fearing a chaos insurrection, an Order of Sororitas is sent to investigate the heresy, and arrives to find the planet in full civil war. They discover that the religion is in fact a front for a Genestealer cult, and join forces with the uncorrupted pdf and civilian forces (including a significant redemptionist cult) to purge them. Unfortunately, just as they are starting to win, the hive fleet arrives...

I'm planning this to be a small supplement, somewhere close to Siege in scale, and featuring new rules for battles involving hive-city terrain. Style-wise, I'm planning on taking cues from IA4 and several 40k codices, in that much of the story will be told or illuminated by communiques, reports, personal diaries etc.

List-wise I'm hoping to use a modified version of my Ministorum list for the sisters, as it already features PDF and redemptionist elements. For the Nids I'll likely use Jaldon's new-style list once it's done. Anyone know of any good genestealer cult lists? If not I'll work one myself.

Thoughts? Ideas? Insults?

Mr Z

There was a Genestealer Cult list put up by Cybershadow. I have attached it below. It is pretty old and possibly outdated - unsure at this time.

If you want help or a partner, just let me know. I have been buying up Genestealers wherever I can find them for just such an army. So if you want someone that is enthused for a side project, happy to be that guy.

Cheers......

That list seems serious overcomplicated. I think I'll sketch out some ideas for a list today.

I'm thinking keeping it simple is the way to go, with elements similar to LaTD. Basic cultistesque stats for blood brothers and tougher CC oriented for hybrids, combined with a lot of imperial equipment. Certainly no limos....

Here's a rough idea of where I see a genestealer cult list going. No stats yet, and points costs are pretty arbitrary.

I understand what you mean, however remember that the cult attempt to appear not to want to take on any attention until it is too late. So standard 'trucks' should also be the go to offer transportable firepower and masses of troops. Lightly armoured and cheap (much like the orks have).

It depends how far along you want it. Even in the event of civil war and the split of loyalists vs cult, Chimeras would not really be the majority purely for the sake of where the revolt takes place - within cities and hives, not on the battlefields.

Much like the civil war in Libya at present and African warlord states, there are armoured carriers, however necessity and cost sees the use of standard transports as a viable option.

Limos? Well that depends on the ego of the Patriarch does it not? :)

Other question: Is the list intended for a 3000 points force or is it a minor list only made to see small forces of say 1500 points? The issue is that (from my understanding) there really is not much literature on planet wide cult revolutions? How far back do you intend to go for a gene-cult list as well? The initial idea was that they consisted of chaos cult forces as well as they were easy to infiltrate.

Do you think these may be out of place? The initial infestation is with genestealers and a patriarch.

I know you may intend the force to be just as the hive arrives, yet wouldn't keeping the genestealer Cult force true to it's incarnation that most recognize be the way to go rather than providing a scenario specific list?

Either way, the list you made seems quite reasonable. I believe some form of aircraft would not be out of the question either flown by Blood Brothers.

I like the idea of Land Transporters/Trucks/Technicals, but it does beg the question: what does personal transportation in the 41st millenium look like? I'm not sure I've ever seen 40k art from GW or otherwise depicting anything so banal as a car or truck. Those pieces of fiction that incorporated them never went so far as to describe them either, AFAIK.

Looks like an interesting list, zombo.

I also was going to suggest that the lictor and broodlord options be removed, and the inclusion of limos (or atleast "land transport" ala LatD) and more air support (perhaps the versions from the mossinians)

I've a lot of experience with Genestealer Cults (they where probably my favourite part of 2nd ed 40k) and would be happy to help out

I'd also think the inclusion of Sentinels would be a very good idea.

my other concern, is where is the Magus?

I would think that the LatD list provides us with all the precedent necessary to go along with this idea.

They are there. Look harder :D

OMG! How did I ever forget the Magus! Correct JTG. Very good pick up. ;)

I'm not looking for precedent, I like the idea. I just want to know what people's vision of M40 personal transportation is. LaTD use junkers, similar to Orks. What do well connected hive dwellers use? Tracked, Wheeled, or Hover? Are aircars common for other than the super-elite? Would one just use 38,000 year old Toyotas with HMGs from GHQ? :D

No. Ford F500s :D

Honestly I would expect hover vehicles, however I am hard pressed to find any imperial hover vehicle that I like unless it is the old Judge Dread Speeder bike ;)

Post subject:  Re: Epic: Hive (New suppliment project)

most hive transport is actually mass transit, maglevs and trains
personal transports exist (more in the underhive actually, where infrastructure is less prevalent) and are pretty analogous with current designs, but with fancier fuel requirements.
hover cars would be right out for anyone but the super rich. the suspensors are rare-tech.

out in the agriworlds or shrineworlds its pretty much trucks and halftracks, although they're rarer than today, also a fair few horse/oxen/grox/whatever-drawn carriages

and yeah, i apparently left out a key word. Sentine Upgrades. i reckon that would be a neat idea. but theres probably a reason why they havent been done before...
