Yep, the last pic is the same as the mat I use now.  ITs good for both epic and 40K, I just need to get some roads etc built/bought to break up the look.

Hey Jimbo, in the second picture in your last post, I see some old Stompas; a question- are they metal or plastic? And, do you think they are nicer models than the new ones?

Isn't that one of the old 40K Tinbots or Runtbots, Jimbo !?  ???

the left two are I think new plastic ones, not sure which ones I prefer... the older ones only have a close combat weapon on their right, not a combi weapon.

as you can see from this image

there is not a lot of difference between the new and old plastics

the right ones (as Legion correctly points out) are 40K Tinbots, which I quite like (and prefer over the older plastics ones).

I don't have any of the original metals ones see Epicollector Stompas for pics

and I still haven't figured out rules for the Epic scale Tinbots either..

Yes, as Jimbo said there is a difference in weapons on the first plastic Stompas vs. the second version, I have both. My buddy has some 40K Tinbots in his Epic Ork Mobs, and as you see, they are very cool  !!! ?I had a chance to get some of the original metal Stompas years ago, brand new, still in the blisters, but passed it up  - DOH !!! ?We use hybrid rules from SM1/AT1/SM2, for the Epic Tinbots ... as I said, we try to remain flexible  !!!

I've got all of the Stompas inlcuding the ultrarare AT-1 era "only at GW-UK GT" limited issue one. I think it was from a UK-GT in Leeds, but I'm probably wrong. It looks like the other metal one except with a different head and arms that look like smaller versions of the ones on the Runtbot. I offered Sayeth AKA Epicollector photos of mine (they're painted though), but he's never responded.

There have been four different "official" makes of Stompas (2 metal and 2 plastic) and an "unofficial" fifth if you include the 40k Runtbot.

I've converted a ton of stompas for E-A. The plastic cuts up so nicely and makes converting them so much fun. It doesn't take much work to add on new arms, reposition old ones, or even reposition the head and legs.

I like all of the Ork models, but I have always wished that GW would make the Orks a little less fantastic. Alien technology is great, but much of the Ork's technology (particularly 2nd Edition) were "over the top."

I'd like to see Gargants look a little more feasible. The "weeble wobble" look is a bit much. Legs do need a little clearance underneath the body. I'd also like to see Orks get a little more firepower (what Supagunz are giving the Orks in E-A).

Like others, I really love the Ork Fighta-Bommas. They remind me of early MiGs. I've replaced many of the ugly oversized rokkitz on mine with bomb loads that look better. I've also converted some Ork BFG Brute Ramships with wings and ordinance to be my E-A Ork Bommas.

One of the best things about the Orks is the open license to convert anything and crudely convert it if desired. I like to keep one set of miniatures uncoverted and go to town with the rest. One of my favorite conversion is to stick Epic-40k Wartracks treads on the old SM-2 Pulsa Rokkit. It makes it look like a new model. Very cool conversion.

I'm a huge fan of Jimbo / Felix's Ork conversions. I should probably send him some photos of some of my work one of these days.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Well thanks to Simon Haines, I got to expand my Ork collection the weekend.

So I can now give my view on more models.

I love the flak wagons.  I think they look just right.  And the conversions I've seen on Jimbos webpage (turning them into trukks) makes them even more useful.

I have a few weirdboyz towers.  I have been using those as wartrukks, by not putting the tower on, and adding armoured panels along the side.

I only have 1 scorcha and buggy at the moment, but they are nice.  I like the Mekboy speedsta too.

The gunwagons aren't too bad.  A bit 'clean', but not horrible.

The dreads are :blues:

And the big gunz and pulsa rokkets are fine too.

In fact, maybe I dont hate as much of the range as I thought     I guess the Gargants need addressing, along with  maybe the infantry and battle fortresses.

Although I guess, if you try, decent versions can be made by converting.

For me the Flakwagons are really useful and have (as you can see from my Ork Wagonz Page that there is a lot of potential.

My personal favourite has to be my Krooz Missilz Launcher, though

I have on the workbench at the moment some "Manticore" style multiple rocket launcher Trukks. One was built using three Pulsa Rokkits on a Hydra platform - looks suitably Orky - pictures soon, honest.

I also have used some Basilisk guns (SM1 era) on the trukks as well.

Although I guess, if you try, decent versions can be made by converting.

very true

A memory that will stay with me always was the first rumours of the 40K Krootox. I think that it was described as 'a Kroot standing on a baboons bum". We all went  :p , but he was completely correct. I mean, how WOULD you describe it?

A T-Rex crossed with a chicken. A kroot genetic modification error.

Cheers

Well, I just received my Gargant last night I won off Ebay.  Its the epic40k edition one.

It actually isn't that bad a model.  It still looks a little like a weeble wooble, but not as bad as I orginally thought.  I've already made it, and hope to paint it up asap, so that it'll fit in.

My Ork horde is coming along nicely, and is still keeping to its stompa theme.  I realy would like to get hold of some fighter bombers next.

For me, the difference between the original Gargants and the newer e40k ones is about the detail. The original versions had a lot of interesting stuff and loads of guns jammed on them, which is how it should be. Later, there were a lot more smooth and empty surfaces, and that just did not feel Orky. I like the original Gargants, and not the newer ones, even though they are actually fairly similar.
