Hi!

Then again, a transport of this type is not meant to be flyinf in a combat zone but to be protected by escorts, so its vulnerable nature may not be so bad.

What do you guys recon it will cost when it is realeased? ?15 to ?20?

It looks kind of skinny when compared to a Gargant or Warlord titan. I don't think above ?15 possibly even ?10 or ?12??? Or am I being too optimistic here :p  (I probably am but it is just part of me justifying to my self -and my bankaccount- that I will be able to afford one or two of these things :D )

Yes Chris, just missed a ride or making a jump from a C-17. ?Oh, yeah I forgot about flying in C-7s and C-123s ... very old school ... Vietnam era stuff but the 130s and 141s were too, as well as the KC-135s ! ?Most aircraft that big are just flying fuel tanks anyway, there's just so much fuel in these birds that a good hit and ... well - game over. ?Which brings me to Primarch's point, when an air assault goes in the LZ is usually "preped" with CAS and FA and even Naval Gunfire if available. ?And along with the Liftships, carrying the troops and vehicles, goes Gunships (Apaches, Cobras [or Thunderhawks !]) to suppress any enemy fires that the CAS, FA, etc. missed. ?And even before all this happens the Scout Birds are leading way out in front of the first lift. ?There's a good Epic scenario for you ... :;): ? ? ? ? ------------------------ ? ? ?Cost of the Lander - $20 USD, if we're lucky ... ?
:D

Hi!

I agree that it may be expensive, 20 dollars or more.

I'm just not sure if such a model has a place in a regular battle....

Let face it- amphibous assaults (from Sea or Orbit) into a defended area are just plain DUMB.  Today, we try and avoid it at pretty much all costs.  The thing to do is to land where the enemy ISN'T, get sorted out, then stomp him.

We dont do D-Day Assaults anymore...they are just too expensive.

So no this unit shouldnt be used in a Hot LZ...but there are times when you dont get a choice...

Hi!

I'd view this model in more of an objective to be fought over than a functional model. It would make a good scenario to defend the airstrip this model was on re-fueling to get away and the opponents job is to stop it!

Good fun!

Exactly correct Tas, we don't get inserted into massive enemy fortifications, we try to go where he isn't ! ?You were taught that as I was. ?Forced entry is the very last option. ?Going into a Hot LZ is a very bad thing and avoided if at all possible. ?That's why support assets try to insure LZs are Cold. ?But there are some interesting scenarios available including the one Primarch suggests. ?However landing some Drop Ships (Drop Pods and/or Thunderhawks) behind a covered and concealed position in your enemy's rear and demonstrating the classic "vertical envelopment" maneuver is still an exciting concept. ?However it can be a bit risky. ?"Who Dares Win" - SAS motto

Though I am sure Taz and Legion 4 are quite right that landing in a hot LZ is tactically a mistake, doesn't mean it doesn't make a great game!

One of the things I like about Epic is that it allows me to play games which have a cinematic feel to them (as opposed to a realistic feel).

So though I know that a force landing in a hot LZ shouldn't happen, doesn't mean I will never use my Ork landing craft against a fortfied Imperial Guard beach!

Hi!

Agreed Jimbo. I have played in several throughout the years where massive "hot DZ's" were used and they are a blast! Very tactical, very tough and go, VERY entertaining.

Well, I guess one issue is solved...

...regardless how goofy the transport looks like, it CAN have a place on the tabletop if you really want it to.

I totally agree with you- my comment was in accordance with L4's SoTR :D

Oh yeah...Ride of the Valkyries stuff is great to play.  Thats why one of my ongoing (read stalled) projects is the "Saving Guardsman Ryan" Amphibious Assault scenario

Well if you read both my posts here you may notice that I intimated that you try a Forced Entry scenario, "Who Dares Wins", etc., etc. ! ? ?However, I won't land out in the open in front of anyone's guns ! :o ?No matter what army I'm playing ! :p And no matter how I've been inserted, rubber boat, LCM, Amphtrac, PCF, Chopper, or parachute, it was always cinematic ! ? ?We even had speakers rigged on our Hueys playing "Flight of the Valkyries" as we inserted into the Central American jungles ... now that's entertainment ! ?:D

Indeed it is!

I once drove a Destroyer into a 5" gunfight with "Heart Of Oak" blaring over the Main Broadcast intercom. :D

Military life is made bearable by such moments...

Just thinking.....
L4, Tas and members, has anyone given any thought to writing down tactical wisdom ala Index Astartes a so called Epic Codex Imperialis, Chaotica etc, etc. for whatever force one my field.
Like FMs issued to the troops.
