Hello everyone.

I'm in the process of planning a build for the new Adeptus Titanicus game that looks like it may be released in near the future (1y?). I used to have a few EPIC minis but long since sold them and have never actually played.

I've read a lot about how the new game will not actually be 6mm but rather 8mm.

Since there's really no other scifi 8mm game or terrain on the market it seems silly to build specifically for such a scale. Also, when it comes to smaller scales like 6 and 10mm it seems to me that the miniatures and terrain are more a symbolic representative (be it thematic) of what's going on instead of a 1:1 representation of scale and quantity. Even within the history of Epic there's a lot of scale creep as well as just inconsistencies. So instead of trying to be super exact with scale I think its probably better to have something that just plain looks cool but still not vastly out of scale.

For that reason I'm thinking of just building for 6mm. That way the new Titans and other models are
1: easy to pick out of the terrain.
    2: look impressive against it.
3: Can re-use the same terrain for other 6mm games on the market.

So my questions to the community would be these.
Would playing 8mm minis on 6mm terrain just look weird? or would it work?
Also for anyone out there that has both 6mm and 10mm scifi minis can you take a picture of them both against 6mm terrain?

THANKS!

Below is a mockup I made in Sketchup to get an idea of the scale difference of a typical Land Raider. Let me know if I have the measurements wrong for the 6mm one.

My infantry tend to be 7 to 8mm anyway and look just fine next to regular epic scale terrain so I don't see any issues here.

there's more than a few pictures around with people using DZC for epic. It's not too weird and probably wouldn't be noticed regardless.

We had a DZC table at the tournament this weekend in Exeter. From the one image of the planned warlord for AT they looked like they will be ideal - between 8 and 14" tall (ish).

It shouldn't look wierd at all. It is very common in the wargaming world to use
smaller scale buildings (eg. we use 6mm buildings with 10mm figures). Strange
as it may seem, it tends to look better than usng 10mm buildings.

Perhaps the reason for this is that your wargames army is usually not 1:1
representation (eg. 30 figures will represent a full battalion of approx 600).
So, if you use full size houses, they will take up too much ground space in
comparison with your warband / regiment / detachment. Anyway, it should
look fine.

Cheers,

Phil

Do you happen to have any photos of this? My gut tells me it would look fine as well but I'm just curious to see an example as I'm having a hard time finding any online.

Thanks!

I'll take a couple of shots tomorrow and add them to this thread.

Don't worry about it too much. Size and scale are not so important. Play with what feels right to you that is within your budget and available.

Terrain is an abstract concept in every war-game. Stuff to get into, stuff to hide behind, stuff to represent objectives, stuff to fight over, and stuff that was actually there.

Example any of the buildings on the 2nd day of Gettysburg. If 1 stand equals roughy 48 dudes, exactly how big would that build be? How would the relationship of the building Vs the ground scale and the ratio of dudes make the game playable?

Think about a squad or platoon going into a wooded area. The actual no shit size of the trees and under brush Vs the individual man. It would be unplayable to have a wooded area represented in true scale or any scale. You would never be able to move the plastic dollies around. Wooded areas in wargaming become area terrain for playability.

Or about a squad advancing down a street. Their positions in relation to each other and to that of their surroundings? It is why there is ZOC in the game. That 6mm dude is not actually exactly on that spot. Him and his squad mates are a point of reference for an area that they control/occupy.

Sorry its taken so long. Here are a couple of pics showing 10mm figures with 6mm buildings :

Buildings by Total Battle Miniatures. Figures are Pendraken.

I use the buildings to represent villages in games with 10mm figures - they look fine.

Phil

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

They certainly do look fine against 6mm buildings. Having not played smaller wargames or built terrain for them before this makes me feel confident that the difference in size is unimportant.

My thoughts exactly.

Thanks!

I bought some 10mm buildings for Warmaster but they seem pretty big, to the eye - people have told me I should do what you've done and stuck with 6mm.
