http://www.amphibmods.com

See pic. Very happy with them. Dealt with Ian, top bloke, great cons, fast delivery

Looks awesome, Have not long based a load of mine like that on stands, Used to always attach the trees to the diorama or gaming boards but to many ended up getting damaged, Putting them on stands was the way ahead, also as mine are for city scape scenes, i just painted the outside of the stand grey so it now just looks like a wall has been built round the tree and blends in well with the city board ;)

I still hate the bits of flock that fall off every now and then though, and have strongly considered the metal trees for 6mm but cost wise its expensive to get the same effect and they never look as good as the normal model trees :-\

Have you tried dousing the trees in cheap hairspray?

Faced with the same problem I came up with this alternative. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea aesthetically but these have the advantage to place models "under the canopy".
I scavenged the foil from my jobs with a lighting firm, they regularly throw out those that are burnt in the middle - not so much nowadays though with everyone going over to LED lighting. 2-3 squares (30x30cm) gave me about 10 trees.

For max. stability I drilled holes in the base for the trunks and punched one or two holes in the foil to let the wood stick through. Serves as sort of a "handle" for the model as well.

There is a variant of this design somewhere in the forum posts. That has bigger 'lid' covered in foliage to represent many trees, that can be lifted off to reveal units below.

Nope, it was apparently adam77

viewtopic.php?f=28&t=18044&hilit=Forest+Canopy

Unless you were thinking of an even different one.

Unfortunately, the pictures are no longer up and the tutorial link is dead.

Rings a bell, that is pants, sadly one of the dramas of not been able to upload photos directly to the site as sites like photo bucket shut down etc and all pics are lost :'(

Sounds like it might be this. I'm in the process of making some forests myself. I quite like the "birds' eye view" aesthetic - much better than a few scattered trees IMO.
