I'm still using shapeways for now (other options I've looked into would produce a smoother surface, but would be quite a bit more expensive) but you're right, it does require some surface prep before I can use it for casting. I do most of the work with a sculpting tool, carefully scraping smooth any areas with unwanted texture. I then wash the parts and coat it with a thin layer of spray primer - this lets me see any areas that need more work that would be hard to spot when the parts are translucent.

I've found the amount of cleanup varies quite a bit. I've received some parts that had a lot of frosted areas, and some batches that were almost perfect and required very little cleanup.

But the cleanup of the frosting itself, can that just be done with scraping and soaping?

In my experience, that's usually done the trick. In a few cases where there has been unwanted texture on flat areas that are hard to reach (sometimes due to accidental scratches while I was cleaning) I used a tiny piece of very fine sandpaper stuck to the end of my sculpting tool. The little circular "foot" shaped sculpting tool is the most useful when scraping.

If I may ask are you likely to be running another campaign this coming year or are you just going to release new items as you produce them.

Interested to know what we may see coming from Wasteland in the future.

Cheers

I came here to ask that exact question... I've got one of everything you make sitting in the cart, and I'm debating whether to dive in or not :P

Funny you should ask that now :D

I've just released two new products - Industrial LPG Tanks and Pumpjacks are now ready and available for your gaming table! The shipping containers have been remastered and should be the next product out.

I've also lowered the price point on a couple products such as the Gothic Bunkers, and added a couple packages with larger quantities that will save you some money if you want to pick up a bunch at once.

I don't have any current plans for another Kickstarter this year - it's something I've considered, but I need to do more groundwork to figure out the best way to produce the larger buildings I would want to fund if I did another campaign. The absolute earliest I could possibly run another campaign isn't until the start of the summer, so even if I were to decide on another one it would be a ways down the road.

Those lpg tanks look really cool, a large clump of those would really add to that Forgeworld feel...

Right, glad I held off then. A whole heap of bunkers and those LPG tanks will help divide the city into industrial, and enforcement/administratum.

Now if only I could decide on what size to make these bloody city tiles ;)

Alright, order placed after much planning. Ended up cutting out a whole heap of 50mm squares and designing an urban layout at 1/3rd scale.

I understand that the postage cost is based on weight, but it got to the point that by adding a single building to my order it nearly doubled the postage from $23 to $45. I spent a long time adding and subtracting bits trying to work out relative weights to keep the postage down. Is it possible to get the unit weights listed on the store to make order planning easier?

Thanks for the order! I'll get your stuff boxed up and on its way.

I'll see what I can do to make the shipping calculations more transparent. Unfortunately the postal service has a series of hard-and-fast weight rules and anything that bumps you into the next category up increases the price by quite a bit. Plus I need to account for the box itself and any other packaging - Canada Post does not forgive XD. This was real trouble during the kickstarter, too.

A quick preview of a couple designs for gothic-styled shipping containers I've been working on recently. The design for more traditional containers has already gone through a couple iterations, but is already printed and on its way through molding and casting. These will be a little ways down the pipeline. I'm not sure if I like the one with the skulls - I think it will be a lower priority but I wouldn't mind having a couple different designs in production that people could mix and match. The little spikes on the top can be trimmed off to assemble stacks of containers. Let me know what you think!

An attempt at showing scale. This should (hopefully) be a pretty close approximation of the height and length of the containers next to a stand of regular Epic-scale marines. As you can see, the tricky thing about scale at this size is how thick the bases are compared to the height of the figures - inevitable when working at a scale this small. I've tried to hit a compromise between realistic scale compared to the figures, and looking right when you see them next to bases.
