One of the typos that snuck into the NetEA Eldar DRAFT Document was that "close combat" Exarchs got MW added to their extra attack.

How do people feel about making that an actual change?  Firefight extra attacks, even if not MW, are better than CC extra attacks as they can be used in support as well as direct engagements, so granting the CC specialists a MW attack might balance out their power.

As it stands, I almost never take CC Exarchs as the utility of FF is just that much better.

Thoughts?

I did'nt notice the typo.
Well, an Exarch who comes into CC take many more risks than one who stay at FF range. Being in BtB makes him one of the first casualties. that's why I usually prefer FF Exarch : easier to use the extra attack, and less risk to loose the Inspiring bonus too fast.

So if CC and FF Exarchs cost the same thing, giving a bonus to the CC Exarch seems fair.

MW, or First Strike, or even Sniper (I don't remember if the Sniper can still apply to assault attacks or if it's a shooty attack exclusivly).

I've got no problem with it and don't see it as being especially unfair.  That being said, I would probably still choose a FF exarch over a CC one.

I agree with Zilla. Even with MW, I'd see myself more likely to take FF. Therefore I think they should definitely be +1EAMW. At least then it'd be a lop-sided choice, rather than no choice at all.

Though it would make Shining Spears essentially TK(1). I'm fine with that, but felt it should be said.

Yep.  I'm okay with it.  CC has downsides that FF doesn't, so a more powerful CC is fine.

I don't see it being necessary.  An extra attack is just fine given that the Exarchs are only 25 points each and they add the all too important inspiring ability.  Once again, its a change to a list that has been relatively stable for awhile now.

Are banshees currently 2+ CC? If so, could that be considered a stealth boost to them?  :grinning:

But I agree with the rest, no real need to introduce this at this stage.

I don't see any particular problem with it, but as other people have said, I'm not convinced there's any real need for it either.

why not? if it means that a piece might get more use then why not try it? besides, CC MW is pretty much par for the course when you look at "leader" type units in every army

It's an interesting idea, but the Exarch is rather too valuable to be lost, even if (s)he were to be granted a MW attack, so I'm not sure if I would make use of it.  That said, if I ever decided to field an all close combat formation I would be tempted  ??? .

It's not that big of a deal.  Typically, CC formations have some sort of delivery mechanism so that most of them can reach CC.  Since lots of units are in CC, it takes lots of hits before you're obligated to allocate a hit to the Exarch.

It depends how good you are at positioning your units though, as units still have to be allocated hits from front to back, and if your Exarch needs to get into base contact, you cannot be too conservative with his/her transport, otherwise (s)he could end up having to use firefight instead, so it's a tricky balancing act.

I don't see a great need for it and I haven't heard a great clamouring over how underpowered CC Exarchs are. Adding MW to CC Exarchs might also cause confusion over what the Autarch gets. I'd leave it as is.

Now, what still gets my goat, is why Dire Avenger Exarchs get a +1EA CC attack when they're FF troops. Just doesn't make any sense to me and yes, I'll keep on banging my drum about it (just don't tell me it's because some 40k DA exarch has a big sword instead of a big gun) :)
