Hey guys new here, just wanted people's opinion on a tau list I've been working on.

I've been running

Shas'o and crisis

2 units of 6 fire warriors in devilfishs and 3 piranhas
One unit with a skyray so I don't have 2 BTSs

6 hammer head ions

3 units of 4 hammer head rails

5 units of tetras
2 with 3 piranha upgrades for over watch the start of the game.

I've been playing it and it seams to be working with tetras covering the field and being in lines back to my board edge so they can't get as many in range. It covers the board well and the ZOC keeps their army back while my units pound with rails and seeker missiles.

I only have the one skyray and I'm hoping its enough just to get blasts on any incoming assaults.

Does anyone play tau this way, or is their flaws in the list I'm not seeing.

Just wanted some opinions.

My regular opponent used 4 tetra formations just last night. He uses them to chain together units of tetras and railheads and/or fusionheads for coordinated fire. Double the tetras forward then sustainfire seeker missiles at my IG Mech Infantry. Trick is to hide most of the tetras in the formation behind cover and have one exposed to place BM and markerlight. The tetras basically form a hidden screen while everything else sits on the table edge and hammers away with seekers and rail guns. Then counter attack whatever manages to engage their way through the tetra wall

ahhh sweet that's what I've been doing but I haven't seen it in any battle reports.

Did you do a report? :P

No unfortunately he won't let me batrep a game until he's got his army painted.... its a tactic I'm struggling to think around especially when you roll tetra saves like "wor Dave" :)

About 16 games vs Tau on my blog, and I pretty sure Tau have won well over half of them. Tetras are always absolutely crucial to their success. Marklighting, delaying and crossfiring.

Hey I had a look aim not really good at navigating around those sites to find all the tau bat reps I saw a couple but still not as many tetras. I'm running 30 in a 3k list using them to control my opponents movement pretty much just covering the board. Was wondering if anyone else plays like this or had success with it.

Yeah in our latest games its been like trying to fight through a sea of tetras for the first 2 turns while the rest of the tau army sits in their deployment zone blowing 7 shades of snot out of my armies. Doesn't help that almost everything else in his army is packing bloody seeker missiles mind you.

On a side note how many times in a turn can you coordinate fire? As the last 2 games have pretty much been decided by a turn 2 coordinate-retain-coordinate for 6 formations activating start of turn 2.....

I'll have to navigate through it and find it. Pretty sure as many as you can.

Kk so others are doing it and it's working so :D

Did you have trouble working out which tetra belongs to which formation?

I'm not sure if I should paint the bases different or try and put transfers to mark which formation they are apart of.

He's got their bases marked for each formation at the moment but he plans on painting a certain panel or something a different colour for each formation. With the way scout units end up scattered about everywhere I'd struggle to remember who was who if he didn't

Brutal game. By halfway through turn 3 I'd pushed him into a corner and off his blitz.

The aggressive tetra sea of skirmishers was able to force him back, markerlight him constantly and call in coordinated fire for any hard to deal with units. Eg coordinated fire from tetras and a unit of fusionheads broke a fresh inf company in buildings in one activation (fusionheads get 8 4+ AP shots into cover on the advance with no save + crossfire from tetras = bloody mess). And I did feel a little bit bad seeker missiling his hydra batteries and broken reg HQ (til he ran out of chimeras) from half a county away... But it's not a crime he hasn't committed himself from time to time :)

In short it was brutal and bloody for the poor guard who never really seemed able to exert any real influence on the course of the game

ahhh great to hear it work well :D

ive got a game tomorrow night, ill see how it goes.

I only have 1 skyray for AA, do the barracudas do enough? and the space ship?

I'm running 3 units of 4 rails and 1 unit of 6 ions.

ive been doing the same just picking a target that hasn't activated and making sure I break it with coordinate fire. usually tetras with 2 rails can done enough on something the space ship could. then the 6 irons and usually a fire warrior formation in devil fishes to take down a large infantry formation. fire warriors are so good I wish I took more. 1 AP4 and 1 AP5D each. I wish I invested in them more when I wrote my list and bought models.
