Nid Rules: List Rules Suggestions & Ideas...

This is an organizing post where the Tyranid Champion can collect and summarize the ideas and suggestions for rules for the Tyranid army list.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

I wanted to repost some quotes from Jervis:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been trying to avoid reading threads about lists I'm not working on yet, but with a subject line like this I just had to take a peek...

- The main reason for the 'generic' Tyranid models in the army list is that we are going to replace ALL of those OLD models with new sculpts.

A *lot* of work has been done of the Tyranids in 40K since those old Epic models were released, and now both I and the 40K design team are keen to update the Epic range so that it properly compliments what has been done for 40K. We've already started on this project, and some interesting early conceptual work has already been done.

- In time, once we've fully worked up what are at present rough concepts, the generic vehicles and WE in the Tyranid list will be REPLACED by datasheets BASED on the NEW concepts.

*However*, because we're doing NEW SCULPTS, at least initially there won't be a huge number of different types of unit. That's why the initial Tyranid army list works with a fairly small palette of units, and is based on a Tyranid army in the early stages of its 'evolution' (i.e. One that has only just started to atack the Imperium).

Best regards,
Jervis Johnson, Head Fanatic.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

While I hope to compile a list of proposed changes to the rules for the Tyranid army (instead of unit statistics listed elsewhere), I will quickly post a link to the Tyranid FAQ, which will hopefully help players with some of the more common questions that have previously come up and been addressed:

- All Forums
- Q&A
- FAQ
- Tyranid Questions

http://forums.specialist-games.com/epic....ID=2227

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Some Tyranid troops types, like the Lictor, are Infantry. According to the rules Infantry units should be based with a minimum of three figures per base. Does this apply to Tyranid troops such as Lictors and Biovores as well?
A: Tyranid units like this should be based with 1 to three units per stand.

Q: How does the Break Their Spirit goal work with the Tyranids?
A: Break Their Spirit: A player fighting against a Tyranid army counts as having 'broken their spirit' if there are no synapse creatures on the table when the victory conditions are checked in the end phase.

Q: How do you resolve a tie-break?
A: In a tie-break a player fighting against a Tyranid army scores a number of victory points equal to the value of any and all Tyranid units that are not on the table at the end of the game. In other words, simply work out the value of the units in the Tyranid player's 'dead pile' and that's the number of VPs his opponent scores. Note that this is worked out at the end of the game, so that units which have been killed and then respawned and are still in play are not worth any vps.

Q: Can I choose to march the formation of, say gaunts, three moves and after the first move choose the synapse node to be 'out of formation' and destroyed as per section 1.7.4...
A: Yes.

Q: ...then in the next turn place a new synapse node teleported in within 15cm of all the brood to keep it from going to ground?
A: No, the Tyranids will go to ground before the Synapse appears. In order to move the creatures off safely you need to create a Synapse Node for them to move to *in advance*. Either that, or accept that they will go to ground at the start of the next turn.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi Guys,

I copied and posted this post from an earlier time at the forums. It explains how the posts are organized.

quote:

Maksim: I went through the posts and organized them thematically to start getting the Nids rolling. Having the posts organized makes it easier to go through them and refer to an interested topic. Most topics are organized by a two-letter abbreviation for the queried unit, Units: for multiple units, Rules: for rules question, List: for proposed lists, and Other: for anything else.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overarching Topic Discussion Codes:
BatRep: for battle reports or AARs.

Hi Guys,

I updated the unit codes to reflect the two new Gaunt types, Exocrine, variegated Synapse Nodes, the new Mycetic Spore Cloud name and a code for generalized talk of synapse units (13 June 2005).
