I will have to think about the wings, still not fully convinced yet. I wonder if we'd expect the same feedback for the Millennium Falcon, of ignore the Thunderhawk because it's an impossible aircraft. However, doing some removable wings is doable...so lemme ponder some more about it. :)

As for the 6mm version's weaponry, I've been toying with the idea:

Regarding its secondary and tertiary weapon systems, some energy weapons would be most fitting (not really sure how a machine gun would work in void warfare), probably laser cannons. However, giving this craft a nose mounted gatling cannon would be rather badass...

Cool.

How about making the main weapons pods modular like BFG broadsides we could then add new weapons in the future.

If it could be pulled off, modular pods would be pretty cool, this little fellow I think could look pretty ace with other weapons, too!

I'm not so sure about the shape profile of a nose Gatler: I worry if it might spoil the nice profile the bomber has. But maybe you could have fixed forwards guns on either side of the nose? It seems like a spacefaring craft might have more protected weapons than purely aerial ones (where a protruding chin turret would be fine without re-entry).

Or, maybe you could have weapon pods underneath, where they're recessed during flight, and pop out in aerial fighting? Like the Millennium Falcon's anti-personnel blasters.

On the wings again: increasingly, I like it just as it is. The Javelin's wings look more like weapons mounts than actual flight wings, too.

Guns to either side of the cockpit would work there are existing mounting points already.

Underslung deployable weapon pods are a nice idea.

Ive been thinking of placing the gatling gun underneath the cockpit. Generally the extra guns will pop in and out of the hull depending on the situation.

As for the wings, ill donthem in such a way that theyre optional.

I've started working on a Lance Frigate as a follow-up to the Heavy Frigate I've done for Vanguard Miniatures.

I'm wondering which version you guys prefer: 3 lances (sides and bottom), 3 lances (sides and prow), or 4 lances (sides, bottom, and prow)?

I quite like the underslung cannon but I'm not really fond of the side lances. I think they are too far forward on the ship and end up looking out of place with the rest of the lines. Perhaps try making the fronts even with the underslung one. I think it'll make the front thinner and overall feel more aggressive.

Heh, I'm the opposite, I like the side lances but neither the prow nor the underslung one appears to me. Looking at it, one on top might work.

Of the given options, I would go with the 3 lances, one underneath though, the prow one just looks... wrong.

I know what you mean, I've moved the lances a bit more backwards because of that.

They all look rather cool.... Are these ones going to be escort-sized frigates (rather than cruiser-sized)?

I was vacillating between preferring one to the others, but I kept being unable to decide—they all have attractive qualities (to me, at least). I suppose there could be variants, if they were small (à la GW's old blisters)?

Editation: In (two minutes') retrospect, I think perhaps the central prow cannon on the 3-lancer pokes out too far forwards. There is precedent for frontal-mounted cannon though (e.g. Battlefleet Gothic's Firestorm frigate, Dauntless light cruiser, and Imperial ships with nova cannon).

On the chin Gatling gun on the bomber: for me, I think so long as the mount is relatively 'aerodynamic' looking, I would like it. If it pokes out too abruptly, I think it would spoil the look. Suddenly, I do just wonder how it might work with a tank sponson mount... or even an under-slung titan gun (pulsar bombers away! Though maybe that's going too far :P ).

Like the Panthera Heavy Frigate this beast is about 52mm long. IIRC the Imperial Light Cruiser was about 75mm long, so we're still escort size here.

I was thinking of doing that, so to have both variants available. The thing however is that it would increase printing and casting costs, thus also forcing VGM to charge more for it. Whilst that in itself perhaps isn't such a problem, I wonder if the market is big enough for modular Lance Frigates, and if it's really necessary to have a modular kit for such a ship. Now that could of course be a totally different story when dealing with cruisers and what not...

Current plan is to give it an underslung gatling cannon, more akin to this in size rather than the smaller ones more commonly used by the Novan Elites. It can take out lightly armoured aircraft as well vast amounts of infantry.

The Defence Monitor and prow / turrets sprue is ready. If there's any other feedback, please let me know before I ship it off for printing.
