@ jimmy, it is an interesting easthetic but not for the Eloi though I think maybe it's something to put aside for a possible new range sometime.

Right guys, gals i'm looking to lock down the contents for a Eloi specialists set similar to other armies sets. This will be the first in a small range of specalist sets for this army. The first set will consist of command figures and maybe a few additional heavy weapons for the citizen soldier type troops currently available.

So long lookers, man witches etc, what would you like to see in this pack?

Support platforms don't seem to get a lot of play in EA.

Robed types with spears/staffs would be good. Plus cloak&sniper rifle scouts. Then Elites with short ranged heat lances, hand held missile launchers and portal jumping back-packs would be the obvious choices imho.

And perhaps some just-bigger-than man-sized sleak robots one day?

@ Blip, specialist elite infantry types will appear in the other specialist infantry sets this is purely a command set.

Fair enough, i expect you are getting request from others.

Im just trying to put myself in the position of a starting space elf player wanting an EA army from scratch based on what out of my collection i use the most and isn't easily proxied from elsewhere (though of course EA isn't the only epic in town). I know of at least one elf player put off EA cold due to lack of suitable models and an aversion to ebay.

With your Established i would probably use the Guards as passable seers. More leaders and support would be a nice to have rather than essential atm (imho) especially if you have to skirt ip issues anyway.

After that, you already have the main tanks covered. Aircraft can be proxied just about, so can super heavies (again just about). With the infantry i listed above someone could make a playable army (just). If the range cant provide that then i would imagine sales will be limited...

Not sure if others agree?

I actually like weapons platforms and wish they had crew who looked like support platform crew.

It'd be nice to have some leaders who use regular bullets instead of mind bullets, with an option to be on foot or somehow flying.

But I suspect it's tall robots that people are waiting for, especially with swords (sounds like a future set, though).

I agree that for this faction to work, specialised infantry units are very necessary. However, they are a big investment to do, so I understand why this is being postponed for as long as possible - considering the risks...

Expanding the standard infantry with command units, snipers, and maybe the robot units (heavy infantry armed with either warp cannons or close combat weapons) will allow you to at least field most of the main factions. After that, seeing how popular this faction might prove to be, expansions into lets say jetbikes and more specialised infantry units might not be that far fetched anymore.

That is another option - go for the tall robot option and provide enough to field that faction instead. As someone with a lot of other space elves from years ago, getting enough tall robots is tricky, so you might sell to established collectors that way.

Its a catch 22. Providing the options is expensive, but not providing them could be more so as they wont sell at all.

Again, from experience, trying to convince new players to pick the game up was so hard with partial factions. Onslaught drives me mad with this. You speak to a newbe, saying go here, you can get 60% of what you need to start from these guys, they get interested, like the models and then realise they have to go to 4/5 other places to proxy the key units puts people off. Or worse, there are no suitale/matching proxies available. No new player, no sales for anyone.

Personally if i were picking for the eloi range, i'd do a specialist sprue including one of each - sniper, missile elite, warp jump elite, heat lances - and sell in packs of 5. Yes itd be mono pose (but so are alternatives) and yes people would have one or two options they don't use every time, but im sure it would sell well and once the range is selling it could be expanded with other units plus extra poses etc.

Well, if there are going to be tall robots, please do add a seer variant in that pack. :D

@ Blip, I hear you on all this but I need to start somewhere and a regular command set seems an essential addition to bring the Eloi in line with the other factions.

I have no desire to do a half hearted attempt at covering as many troop types as possible in one set. Besides a mould with a bit of this and a bit of that in it is just a waste when it will be replaced down the road. I'd rather have a mould that will last and not be abandoned when everything in it has been updated. With each figure sets design work costing anything from £15 up to £40 a time each figure i'd rather do it right from the begginning.

Specialist elite troops for the Eloi will appear in their own multi pose sets as time and money allows.

Another thing to note from my perspective is that enthusiasm for new designs here and elsewhere from the community does not always translate into the expected volume of sales, i've released what 7 new models over the last couple of months with less than steller results so this also slows down future plans for bolstering the other factions. The pre-order set up was a good idea designed to generate early funding to get models in production faster but this has had limited success it seems customers prefer to wait until new designs are released before buying.

Just some food for thought, cheers.

No worries, just my observations. Without knowing what lines you do sell most of it is difficult to comment.

Good luck with whichever you go with!

Sorry to hear about the sales. By the way, do people know any other places where we could maybe share/promote these mini's? I can imagine it's a tricky thing since this is very much a niche within a niche market. :(

If you want things to sell its probably best to think about what people would be buying h for and work around that, rather than what your existing range is perhaps.

As an EA player like many others, if I wanted Eloi it would be as a proxy for Eldar. For them, a command set would mean:

- a robed mage with fancy helmet and a staff or spear
- robed bodyguards with swords (4 per mage)
- a robed mage on a jetbike
- a leader for each of the specialists
- a leader robot mage

If you aren't going to do the specialists first then presumably those are out, which doesn't leave a lot. I'm not sure it makes sense to do the specialist leaders with the specialist troops, unleas the ratio per pack is 1:10 or so.

Honestly I am not sure what I would do with the existing models which is one issue. I guess guardians for the established and striking scorpions (which are rarely used) for the blade masters, not sure about the guard.

A long looker, man witches with scouts and maybe a weapons platform or two with maybe a jetbike thrown in was what i'd be considering. I'm not upto date on this faction fluff wise but in the old days citizen troops could have CC weapons too hence the blade masters these figures were never meant to be elite infantry types. The guard are an oddity not sure what ben intended them to be. I think of them as a guardian type body guard unit.
