In Gold, Tyranid Bio-Titan weapons fall into three cost bands:

25: Cluster Spines, Spore Pods, Stinger Salvo
50: Pyro-Acid Spray, Razor Claw
75: Bile Launcher, Bio-Cannon, Ripper Tentacles

Thus it is currently one of the most expensive weapons available. It deserves it. Remember, it has two functions that we were not discussing as well. I'll work something up.

Hi!

Ah! I did no remember the additional functions. Then truly it should be priced accordingly as it adds many benefits.

I just noticed another odd thing in the Special rules for running Tyranids. There are several places that say that if such happens, the formation must make a Hive Mind test. There is no entry that explains exactly how to make a Hive Mind test.

Hi!

That is probably more mistakes in the wording for the tyranids morale system.

Looks like that book will need a deeper proof reading than just an update.

Under the entry for Morale, the Tyranid pdf says:
Tyranids do not take morale checks of any kind and are never
placed on Fall Back Orders. Tyranids are not subject to any of the special
Chaos Daemon rules, nor are they vulnerable to any attack that requires
a morale save. When a brood takes sufficient casualties to be considered
broken, the brood must immediately make a Hive Mind test. Commanders
and Independent broods automatically pass this test. If an Instinctive brood
fails this test the brood will immediately revert to its Instinctive orders, regardless
of whether or not the brood has acted this turn (this may result in
the brood no longer being able to fire).

This seems adequately worded to me, except for the lack of a description of how to make a Hive Mind test.

Hi!

I think "hive mind test" is synonymous with morale check.

I vaguely recall some desire for "flavorful" names to game mechanic concepts.

A terrible idea is retrospect. ;)

I wonder how many more of these will appear in the other books.

Just looked it up in my old "Epic Hive War" book from 2nd edition, and a Hive Mind test is rolling a D6 and if the rolled value is higher than the Hive Mind value, that Brood passes the test. The term "Hive Mind test" IS in the Hive War book, so it's a GW thing. Probably to differentiate it from a standard "Morale check", as even there they are immune to other Morale checks.

I would recommend changing the quoted paragraph to:

Tyranids do not take morale checks of any kind and are never placed on Fall Back Orders. Tyranids are not subject to any of the special Chaos Daemon rules, nor are they vulnerable to any attack that requires a morale save. When a brood takes sufficient casualties to be considered broken, the brood must immediately make a Hive Mind test. Roll a D6 and compare to that Formation's Hive Mind value. If the rolled number is above the value, they pass the test. Commanders and Independent broods automatically pass this test. If an Instinctive brood fails this test the brood will immediately revert to its Instinctive orders, regardless of whether or not the brood has acted this turn (this may result in the brood no longer being able to fire).

Also, there is a typo in the formations listing. The Dominatrix is listed as having a Hive Mind value of 10. This should be a 1.

I have not noticed any similar errors in other books, aside from any that may have been previously mentioned in other threads. As Tyranid are the last list I am putting points to, the others should be good.

Hi!

There are so many copy paste errors going back to version one. I forget in which version the original GW mechanics were replaced, but it looks like some erroneous wording still persists.

Well, at least it looks like your going through the books does not bring up as many issues in other books. :)

I'm also assuming that the Hive Mind value of 2 for the Hive Queen is a typo, as being a single model once broken it is dead, and thus any value other than 1 is just silly.

Hi!

Hehe, so many mistakes in such a short book.

Good thing it is one of the last ones to do. ;)

I assume the high Hive Mind value for the Dominatrix is to reflect the ability of that unit to generate Hive Minds Cards. A Dominatrix, with a point of only 1, is less able to generate cards than a Hive Tyrant. As it will automatically pass any required Hive Mind Test, 10 is a purposeful value.

I have a suggestion - Might Warriors benefit from having HQ? It would offer the 'nids one synapse unit that can't be directly targeted. This could be balance with a reduction in number of stands per unit?

Hi!

That sounds like a good suggestion. I am somewhat surprised it was not added. :)
