Hi!

Post on this thread regarding anything other than specific armies which have their own lists.

Things like rule changes/suggestions or general commentary.

I'd like to make the suggestion we add the named characters to the army lists to bring them alive such characters as Deathleaper, Yarrick , Guardsmen Marbo, Shadowsight, Eldrad Ulthuan ect I think seeing them in net epic would bring some of those armies to life I allways thought the famous characters were far more likely to be in the huge battle commanding the large armies rather than messing with 40k skirmishes lol.

Hi!

Some net epic players have touched base with more to add this as well.

I'm not terribly up to date on more recently added "heroes" but I like the idea. :)

I have to say I don't know them all and there more in forgeworld stuff than you can shake a stick at from what I hear but I do think it would be worth while I've got some of the new 40k codexs and could post names from those :)

Hi!

I think this is something Mattman, whom is leading the addition of newer formation and adding newer units will probably help up with. :)

Hi,

Im thinking that to aid new players, (or those with small collections) maybe we could alter the way that armies are put together, if for example I was to play a small game say 1000 points there isnt much room for making an interesting army list and im pretty much stuck with having to have a company + support formations. Could I just field support formations by themselves?

Im building a Tau force at the moment, and if I want to field a firewarrior company, then its quite alot of figure to get painted before I can even try the rules out.

So maybe -

At least 1 core unit (ie firewarriors/tac marines/eldar guardians etc)
1 character (ie shas'el, marine captain etc)
then make up the rest from detachments from the lists

I have obviously been looking at the threads for minigeddon that the EA chaps have done, great way to get people playing quick games, maybe we should do something similar?

I will do it anyway, because I want to get playing sooner rather than later!

Steve

That would work fine for Factions that don't have strict Command structure rules. Still, I suppose it wouldn't be too hard to have say two Guard Support formations with a Commissar along, or a couple of Ork formations one of which is Nobz.

A small light book may be good with starter armies in the back or just a couple of detachments from each faction.

Hi!

That is not a bad idea. :)

While I am still mulling over formatting of such a book, a quick start reference with basic starter armies would be a good addition.

A couple of years ago I wrote some rules for playing small 1,000 point games of NetEpic. They might be of interest in this discussion.

You can see them here.

Hi!

Jodrell, is there anything you would like to change or modify on the slann/necron list from Gold. I believe that is the only book I didn't do anything to since I leave such things to you. :)

Kotrin is the original author of the Necron list that's been chosen for NEP. I've updated the roster to include units added since the last codex in 2011 and Forgeworld units, but I haven't touched anything else. I would defer to Kotrin on the status of the Necron army book.

The new units haven't been properly play-tested but I think they're "about right". I still need to fill out the stats for the Tesseract Ark, but I have access to the appropriate Imperial Armour book now, so I'll take a look and update the discussion thread.

Has anyone tried using E40K or EA-style formations with NetEpic? It never made sense to have large number of the same types of unit being deployed in a single formation. In the real world you get detachments with infantry, APCs, tanks (and walkers, bikes etc).

Given the rules engine behind NetEpic, would this approach be too complicated?

In theory there is nothing stopping us doing something like that in NetEpic, you would basically buy detachments instead of companies and buy certain elements individually.

Most of what people like about 2nd Ed/NetEpic is that you start with a large formation and then provide support for it, it felt like an army with companies of a hundred odd men or 10 tanks. The formations in EA always looked like they were trying to replicate what you saw on a 40k table. Here is my 3 squads of Tactical Marines, a dreadnought, a predator and a Chaplin.

The style of army list I am working on would allow some things to be mixed within a detachment, like different types of tanks or dreadnoughts. So there will be something going into the rules about firing and mixed formations. And because I am starting the detachment sizes at a lower number (infantry/cav/support weapons will typically be 4-6 models, tanks, 2-4 models) you could theoretically have more smaller formations.
