I agree that some degree of realism is preferable but for me the most important thing is what will work for the game.

Do titans use a to-hit chart determining where they apply damage? If so, drop that and just give all WE and titans a damage capacity. If not, then nevermind.

I like an activation system where moving and firing occurs as one activation of the unit/model. I don't like phases (movement phase, shooting phase, etc).

D6 is fine, but so is d10 and 2d6.

I think an activation system as you describe is probably the one thing we all agree on! ;D

I'm sure the Titan hit charts will be up for discussion. I hadn't thought about that, thanks for mentioning! There's been numerous complaints - some from myself - about how smaller Titans are more durable because you are more likely to end up with your "hit" actually missing when you roll the up/down/left/right dice.

Just thought I'd put it down here; someone on FB asked for veteran options for Titans and Superheavies.

I know we have the former covered in other threads for Titan experience and abilities, not too sure about the latter. Of course, Magnus' formula could solve the problem if it were just a case of giving a Superheavy a +1 on rolls to hit.

The general consensus on FB is that we can alter range if we wish - 19 votes to 3. This is heartening as it means players are happy for improve, nets to be made to the game.

Well, whether changing the ranges is an "improvement" or not is a personal opinion. The vote shows only that people are willing to see them changed. Whether or not that change is an improvement or not will only be known through play.

Hi!

A fact point out after many net epic votes in the past. ;)

At this point I happen to think just using the old SM1 rules of -1 penalty to shots firing beyond half the maximum range is good enough. If you designing from scratch you can adjust the ranges, but in the case of something like evolution of gold which is basically "done". I think the rule addition is the quickest simplest route.

Gimme a vote for -1 for medium to long range.

Thanks,

Pat

Hi!

I think Bissler will probably throw a vote on this point up on FB soon. :)

BTW,

A activation system that I've had very good luck with and would probably be a cut and paste for NetEpic Gold is Iron Ivan's Disposable Heroes. WWII 10mm I've played extensively and have had very good results as far as tension vs. playability. Have played games with upward of a battalion aside. the armor fire/results rules bog down the action a bit but you wouldn't be using these any ways.

Just a thought.

Hi!

I always like hearing about interesting mechanics. :)

Can you describe how it works please?

Well...

First a die roll for initiative (D10). If a tie initiative goes to last person with it.
Activate a unit at a time, taking turns.
Orders are, shoot, move (run, stalk, crawl), fall back, for infantry. Move , Shoot, Fall Back, for armor.
Shoot is FF.
Move: Run, full move no fire. Stalk, up to half move, penalized fire. Crawl, half move to hit is penalized, no fire.
Fall Back, is Fall Back.
Snap fire. A unit may snap fire if an opposing unit is in LOS within 12cm I believe, and firing unit has not previously activated. Snap fire counts as an activation and first player gets to activate again after snap fire is resolved. All results are applied immediately except for fall back. There are break points and morale effects.
Vehicles are handled differently.
Activate along with others.
Fire is FF all weapons at full strength.
Move 1/2 move fire with modifiers, Full move fire with severe modifiers or not allowed, slipping me at the moment.

That pretty much sums it up.

Enjoy,

Pat

Hi!

I like the snap fire range limitation, stealing that one. ;)

In epic 40k you can only snap fire if the enemy comes within 10cm.

I forgot to make it clear.

There are no preordained orders: you pick what you want to do as you activate making the game more dynamic.

Hi!

As most ranges in that game, too short. ;)
