I second Dave's thought on a small platform, even something as simple as a mud guard style fender over one side, or between the motive sections. Not worried much of a crane (Grud are tough truckers, after all), but I do feel it needs -something-.

unfortunately these have already been sent to the printers, but adding a simple platform to the back would be a super easy conversion of anyone who wants one.

Good to hear! By the way, I noticed you've been moving more into your own territory, like for example with the ninja OTC. Will the Grudd still have that miner theme? How about possibly corrupted ones, not evil per se, but more akin to this or that. Speaking of corrupted figures, I can't help but think of these (one and two).

Here's another idea.

Another idea would be to make them have some subtle links to the OTC, more in the sense that they have subtly influenced one another technology.

The Grudd are miners, traders, and merchants in the extreme. Always looking to get the upper hand on anyone they trade with, even recklessly so. It is widely known among the star-faring races to never enter a business deal with the Grudd - as it hardly ever ends well. While they aren’t evil – they certainly aren’t good guys.

Grudd are short humanoids, extremely stout and heavy set, with stone-like skin and gem-like eyes. They have gravely voices, and continually flake stony “chips” when they move, which crack off of their joints. Some grow “quills” from their heads in a proximally of hair, though it’s much tougher and often sharply pointed. Grudd love to flaunt their wealth, and can often be seen bedecked with heavy metal ornaments. They are extremely charismatic, loud, and generally rowdy, often to a fault. They have a hard code of ethics they follow, and a strong sense of honor - but view gaining the upper hand on a business deal as honorable as killing a foe in combat. And like war - nothing is considered taboo when trading - especially with ignorant races.

The Grudd actively seek out younger races to trade with, often offering technology which is trivial to them, yet mind-blowing to the race in question in exchange for mining rights to the choicest planets and asteroid fields in the fledgling races solar system (which at the time is often beyond their reach anyway). In his way, the Grudd are often viewed as benevolent at first, but as their trading partners realize they have ultimately been had, hostilities often occur.

The Grudd are directly responsible for granting many races hyper-drive technology and advanced weaponry that they certainly aren't "mature" enough to have access to - including the Terrans, who without their help would have never expanded past their own solar system.

Currently, the Okami have established a blockade against the Terrans to prevent their further expansion into the galaxy, and have denounced the Grudd for allowing such a violent race to obtain FTL technology. (Being descended from Terrans themselves, the Okami have intimate knowledge of their savage tendencies).

But being denounced by other races is something the Grudd shrug off on a regular basis as they ply their trade among the stars, doing business with any and all who will entertain them. When it comes to conflict - and it often does, the Grudd band together and bring to bear devastating warmachines utilizing technology refined over the eons, honed by wisdom gained from trading with countless alien races from the entirety of the galaxy.

I realize that I am likely in the minority here but short Vikings in space are largely why I don't have a squat army. I find it absolutely retarded, done to death (even more than the regurgitated sci-fi tropes we're into already), and rath bland. Those things that malika2 is busting out however are pure gosh darned awesomesauce and I'd be all over them in a heart beat.
