Well yes, you have to hide behind something tall ... as I said, a building, ridge, smoke marker, etc. ... :{[] Like in the pics below.

But yes, the Assault Transpo rules you talk of is a good addition IMO.

Hi!

First edition had a number of things going for it that made it viable, the smoke rounds Legion4 mentions are one. The movement rates and shorter weapon ranges being the other.

Yes, SM1 had a lot of good rules, etc., in it. Many lost to the ever changing "Orwellian New Think" as the GW brain trust moved on ... The slower speeds and ranges plays into the scale. We added activation as soon as we understood the mechanics. Which was fairly quickly. So the with the activation addition with the ranges & speed. It is/was the way we played/did it.

it's interesting that the PD concept from v1 actually came back in 4th a Small Arms. It's a good mechanic.
I still dig the special "hero" actions your captains could take.

Actually, someone suggested an "Assault Ramp" ability a long time ago for a couple of models, and I added it to the Points Formula for that. Thus it does currently exist in some form for NetEpic, even if just in an optional sub-system thereof.

I like those SM1 Heroic Action Rules as well ... But was lost with another fickle GW brain trust change over ... :( :nooo

I don't remember those. We only played a handful of games before SM2 came out.
Executive summary someone? Could it be ported over into platinum?

@Magnus, good work on the assault transport option in the formula! You're ahead of the curve with that one!

I wouldn't mind getting those in Platinum, but hat means the morale systems needs and overhaul.

Which I do know if there is appetite for that.

they were wonky enough (though admitedly fun) that I'd suggest you put them off into an optional file where they don't require much (read: any) testing. Remember they were balanced more on the fact it was marines v marines. once the rest of the races and forces get involved it just breaks down in a balance perspective and not worth it. We did the port to EA. Fun for a lark but nothing other than beer and pretzles.

Heroic Actions were 6 fun little rules that Cdr's could use during certain times in the game. It added little flavor, etc. ... Was not a game changer but again was fun.

I'm not tech savvy enough to scan them in ... :'( yet ... I've got Windows 10 and I'm just happy I can get online and post pics ...

So if someone is a techno-geek they may be able to post them ? At this point I'm just a Geek ! :-\ :eh :whistle

Eh. It shouldn't be toooo hard to roughly equate them to current Special Abilities. Once that was done, they could be added to the Points Formula and then added to stands as desired. I'll see if I can dig that book out a have a look. Probably won't be soon though.
