Story intermission:

Bisl-ier was alerted by his navigator that they were approaching Kalidothia.

"Permission to orbit sir?" The navigator asked.

"Permission denied," Bisl-ier waved dismissively. Take the fleet to the far side of Roth's Saay."

"One of Kaildothia's moons sir?"

"Of course. Roth's Saay isn't a planet, is it?" Bisl-ier snapped.

"Then we're not preparing the fleet to deploy ground forces?"

"You're catching on quick," Bisl-ier stroked his chin thoughtfully. "We are going to wait here and observe the war. Let Ghordan's pathetic forces fight on their own until overwhelmed. I will not waste the lives of our troops our resources while the Squats are able to put up a fight. Once they are broken we will step in and save the tatters of their civilisation. If the Squats are completely wiped out...well then, we can benefit from the Prometium for ourselves. Meantime we watch. And wait."

"An excellent strategy if I may say so," the Navigator grinned.

"Indeed, I know," Bisl-ier grinned.

Turn 2:

Unaware of the treachery of their Eldar mercenary allies, Ghordan's forces continue... The Squat army Ghor1 fortifies. Ghor2 advances into the city on J4 taking another COM.

The IG armies slowly manoeuvre into positions close by. Brgcmd1 takes the Spaceport as it proceeds.

Turn 4:

Both sides are reluctant to engage one another. A Mexican stand off seems to be taking a grip of both forces.

Ghordan urges his generals to make contact with the Eldar Pirate Bisl-ier. Unfortunately all that can be heard on the comms is static. Were the Pirates lost in the warp?

Turn 5:

Ghordan receives intel that The Bisl-ier's fleet has arrived in the system but is in hiding behind one of Kalidothia's moons. Worse news still was that a massive force of IG, Ad Mech and Space Marines had just pulled out of the warp and were in orbit. No intel was required for that, Ghordan and his warriors could see vast landing cruisers landing many miles in the distance.

"Treachery! Cowardice! Never trust the Eldar! Damn them all to the warp!" Ghordan roared.

Sensing that the Markus may be waiting for reinforcements before striking - and also in preparation for the desperate battle ahead - Ghordan ordered his forces to build more defences. It would leave his forces vulnerable to attack but in the end Markus' forces continued to hold their position. The gamble had paid off, but in the face of horrific odds Ghordan could take little comfort from the situation.

Markus grinned with delight as he received word that reinforcements had arrived and were now advancing quickly into the theatre of conflict. 8 fast moving armies consisting of IG, Ad Mech and Space Marines were now at his disposal. A satisfied smile spread across his face as he surveyed his battle maps. This spelled doom for the Squats!

Turn 6 deployment.

Turn 6 (in progress):

Markus' forces sweep across the theatre of conflict taking vast swathes of territory! Ghordan places Ghor1 army on First Fire orders while he tries to fortify the city again with Ghor2. The waiting is over for Markus however and he strikes! He advances two armies in to strike hard and engage both Squat armies in battle!

Our first battle - for the city - will be fought this Sunday. I hope to post a battle report soon after! Watch this space!

Implications of orders for city attack:
Advancing army attacks Fortify army: Standard deployment except Fortify army must set up their army (and place fortifications) before the Advancing army sets up. Advancing army also gains initiative for turn 1.
In this case the advancing army are the IG. The Squats do not benefit from the fortifications they were trying to build this turn but do have the 450 points worth from a previous turn.

Still can't believe i missed out on taking those objectives on my way down (damn my phone screen for being to small to see them!)

I'll also need to do some reading on the WarChest/Capturing cities as you appear to amassing a horde of coin there (typical squat!)

Looking forward to the battle this Sunday, will make sure to take some photos!

Turn 6:

Markus' Imperial Guard struck in the city, catching the Squats off-guard as they were engaged in building fortifications. The battle was an incredibly one sided affair with the IG sweeping across the city and dominating the territory at an incredible pace. In terms of casualties the Squats had slightly edged the battle but inflicting losses alone is not enough. Victory to the rampant IG!

Ghordan was dismayed as news came through about the defeat in the city. It was hardly the best preparation for his battle against another of Markus' armies. It was all or nothing now, he and his people were fighting for their very survival. He delivered an inspiring message of defiance to his troops and they roared in determination to eliminate the human threat. His warriors did not disappoint and cut a bloody and highly destructive swathe through the humans. But in the midst of this glorious triumph the Squats suffered a bitter body blow; Ghordan had been seriously wounded in the conflict. He was rushed from the battlefield to healers in his mighty fortress just beyond the theatre of conflict...
