I mean to play with tiny armies, and get games about 40-60 min and then allow players to play a campaign in one afternoon with diferents scenarios, now we have a good system to huge battles and games that take 2-4 hours, can we arrage a method to take minigames with netepic? limiting points ( to 1500 pts ) and units ( like titans ).

Then we can give more importance to a scenario (like rogue trader era, atmospheric effects, monsters, vegetation...etc) and more importance to afford, in the future a solid campaign system. With resourceres managing, reinforcements, Army moral, special characters. This idea comes to me when I saw minigeddon and the galatic empire expansion, then I think...eo...this can work together...

I don't know...just my thoughts.

cheers

I wouldn't mind seeing some good scenarios for a change of pace.

Yeah!, the idea is to play shorter games that can be a good-afternoon-campaign with friends, the biggest and longest games leave to a good-weekend-games, final campaign battle or very important scenario. I think that the minigeddon idea is very good and can be translated to netepic rules easilly. Example:

-no titans/praetorians allowed.
-max to 1500-1700 points each army. (maybe 2000 I don't know)
-Four objectives makers as a max each game.
-only two characters allowed.
etc...

cheers

I was actually jotting notes last night on the design of a small games table which I will never build scaled for ease of storage and ideal for this size of battle. Weird coincidence, seeing I hadn't read this thread before this morning.

Interesting idea Bans.

After reading the Epic:Armageddon minigeddon rules, here are my thoughts to transpose them in NetEpic:

- max army size: 1000-1500 points (else, it's not possible to limit game length within 1 hour)
- table size: 120cm (width) * 80cm (length)
- 4 objectives
- 20VP for a victory
- no flyers of any kind
- no drop pods/tunnelers/deep strike/Teleport units (but Necrons that can still use portals to reach the board)
- no bigger titan than "recon" ones (warhounds, revenants, mekboy gargant...)
- limit to 2 company cards max and 1 special character max

Maybe prevent players from picking a cavalry company, some armies have a very populous and powerful cavalry ;)

Scream I agree with your thoughts, but I'm not sure about to flyers, teleport, drop pods, etc limitation. I try to explain:

The netepic richness is the units variety, and all game strategics are based on this concept, we can fall in a infantry_and_tanks wargame if we take this way, how we can balance that, and this is the difference that can make netepic tiny very funny, I'm thinking in something like a designed_senario, for example:

- ultradense surface can be a limitation to deloy your tunellers, they are allowed but the deployment is very difficult. (we will have time to talk about the rule another day ;D )
- magnetic storms can limitate the drop pod deployment and flyers movement.
....and a large etc...
Don't forget that we want to play campaigns in galactic system or a planet or a continent, the we the scenario must be designed. I think that the original rogue trader scenario rules has been forgotten and they was a good base for a lot of fun.

cheers bans

Hi Bans,

proposed restrictions about flyers/teleport/... are not there to limit gaming pleasure. Just keeping in mind that in a small game with a limited time and a small game surface, some kind of units can be very hard to handle by your opponent, that the case of flyers.

A correct AA cover cost around 300 points (1 hydra detachment, 2 hunter detachments) and in a 1500 points game, it's immediatly a big invest. Starting a game without AA and seeing that your opponent has 2+ flyers detachments and you're in a bad situation. That's why not playing games with flyers can keep small games more balanced.

Yes I see. But netepic rules a flyer canbe shooted by anyone...and the alternate rules for flyers try to balance the problem. If we add that the game table is reduced, well the aircraft isn't invulnerable, and the aricraft isn't cheap. I don't know maybe we can do some game test and decide.

Nice idea! I'm interested to see how this project develops.

Speaking of scenarios, I had a few ideas the other night. Will try and scribble them down, see if you think any of them are workable!
