I'd rather go with 1 attack for each unit, like they're described in SM unit description (1 in every five have heavy weapon).

I'm going to try to do that, Borka. Although between the PMs, emails, and posts here, I have to say some players are bound to be unhappy. There seems to be an even mix of players who have Squats based on SM1, SM2, and then weird configurations that I cannot make heads or tails of... presumably from some previous EA lists. When I finally make a decision (regardless of what it is), I'll be bracing for the 'well, MY models are...." comments.

Personally, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Sure it'd be 'best' to have the models properly equipped for whatever stats, but then you run the issue anyway of possibly having to tailor stats to something else regardless.

Example, you start with Warriors as having a single Heavy Bolter, then realise it needs to be a Missile Launcher equivalent, and adjust accordingly. Or doing something else relatively arcane to get the result you needed. That's why with the Dvergatal list, I went with AutoCannons for the Warriors (because HB's blow), and 2xTwin AutoCannons for Thunderers, cause I knew the statline I wanted, and accomodated it regardless.

This is where you thank your diety of choice (All praise the Emperor) for Rule 6.2.1. As long as it's immediately apparent which units are Warriors, and which units are Thunderers, the "Counts as" Rule, saves your bacon.

I wouldn't worry about it too much either. I've always used stands with and without Missile Launchers to represent Warriors units and I've never had an opponent complain. You put 5 Heavy Bolters on a stand and it's easy to distinguish Thunderers from Warriors.

A bit late to this discussion, but thought I'd chime in with my collection anyway.

1xCyclops (based, rectangle)
1xColossus (based, rectangle)
1xLand Train Engine w/2x cars (based, magnetized)
1xOverlord Armoured Airship
2x Goliath Mega Cannons (based, square)

7x Guild Bikes (3 to a stand)
2x Guild Bikes (2 to a stand)
4x Guildmaster Engineers (1 to a stand)
6x Trikes (1 to a stand)

2x Command Stands (mixed Hearthguard, Exo-armour, Standard, Thunderer, Warrior)

24x Warrior (half 'long' stands, half 'squares,' and all are evenly distributed between 5 lasguns and 4 lasguns and a heavy weapon)
A bunch of Berserkers (5 Berserkers to a stand)
A bunch of Thunderers (5 Thunderers to a stand, some mixed heavy bolter and missile launcher)

A lot of these were unbased when I first got them, so based them per 'modern' army conventions (i.e. Command stand are a mix of characters, 3 bikes to a base, etc.). The rest are rescues from ebay, and are based per the SM/2nd convetions outlined in the Warlords supplement (2 bikes a base, etc.).

I don't feel, by and large, as though basing concerns will be an issue. The number of Goliaths and Thunderfires shouldn't exceed their original sizes, probably, due to availability concerns.

7000 points using the Demiurge list, one of each large war engines including a selection of battle cars for the land train (2 of each variant). Two units of automatons. Four Iron Eagle squadrons. One unit of goliaths, one unit of thunder fires, three overlords, enough moles and termites to ruin a football pitch and enough infantry, bikes, trikes and hearth gaurd to swap in and out for all ocasions.

Untill recently I had only the land train and a handful of infantry bases. However a friend of mine found a load of 1st and 2nd edition stuff from decades back in his loft and asked if I would like it. You don't want to know what I had to do in return to get my hands on it. What price dignity?

Dignity?? You play Squats! Dignity's got nothing to do with it.

I have used 4 lasgunners and 1 heavy weapon for warriors, 5 heavy weapons for thunderers and 5 pistol wielding nutcases as berzerks.

My exo armours are made of exodus wars walkers cut off at the knees and glued back together, and my characters are a mix of heartguard and khazari characters. Banners have been used to show lord stands.

If it still matters, my collection consists of lots of sprues with some imperial surplus for the cross-force units. I have very little actual squat metal aside from a full set of tunnelers.

I wouldn't worry about that for too long. ;)

I base mine as 5 thunderers to a stand, 3 warriors to a stand, 3 beserkers, hearthguard 1 per stand plus a bannerman, exo armour 2 per stand plus a bannerman, I also base my bikes as two per stand, trikes 1 per stand and guildmaster bikes as 1 per stand. Currently I play SM2 so all formations are correct for that version. I have based them with so few troops per stand to get the most out of the sprues I have available - background fluff is they are survivors from the Tyranid invasion that wiped out the rest of their race ;)

Pictures below if your interested; sorry for the quality:

Yeah, Sam. When are you going to post some battle reports with pictures of that fine looking army? :)
