This morning I had a game of 40K.
My Orks were tasked with defending an Imperial Administratum building (which they had just taken) from an Imperial counter attack.
The Orks were armed with small-arms, a few heavy weapons and a couple of Grot Big Gunz.
Facing them were horder of Imperial Valhalla infantry who were sent in waves across the main square to re-take the Administraturm.
It was a really good game, with the Imperial Guard being totally wiped out for the loss of less than 25% of my Orks.
Though I know a lot of people knock the 40K rules, they worked today as I would expect with waves of infantry trying to take out defended positions. Even the late arrival of an Imperial armoured vehicle was futile as it was taken out by an Ork Rokkit Launcha in just one shot!
Anyone who has seen Enemy at the Gates, or read Stalingrad or Berlin by Anthony Beevor can imagine how our games looked and played.
I did take some pictures which I will post soon.
Overall a great game.
Next time my Orks will need to be the attacker!

Did you use the basic 40k rules or the ones from Codex:Cityfight?

When I used to play 40k regularly a couple of years back I loved playing Cityfight. My then regular opponent fielded orks and I used to use Valhallan Imperial Guard. We played about a dozen games of Cityfight and had a blast.
I won just under 50% of these games (I think 5 out of 12) but main thing was how fun they were. We had so many cinematic moments such as an ordinary Imperial Guardsman taking out the Ork Warboss in hand to hand as the Imperium refused to be evicted from the objective building.
In the main we both took balanced armies that we used for standard 40K rather than tailored for Cityfight. Most of my games were based on a core of couple of platoons of Valhallans, a demolisher, a hellhound and maybe some sentinels with multilasers.
In the final big game I took extra mortar sqauds and also pair of Griffins, both of which did really well in Cityfight. But we both enjoyed the opportunity to play our standard 40k armies with Cityfight giving just a slight twist to objectives/rules etc to give us a bit of variation to ensure that our games of IG vs Orks using standard rules did n't get stale.
No idea how Cityfight plays under the lastest version of 40k rules. Cant think of too much that would have changed as we did n't used to see too may rhino rush armies in Cityfight!!
Other than disclaimer of not knowing how Cityfight works with latest 40k rules, I would recomend it most highly. Especially if you have got some multi-level scenary such as the old Necromunda buildings.
Cheers
James

Cityfight is been updates (Cities of Death) and will be released in the next few months.
Under the new rules it plays just as it did under the old rules.
