Has anyone bought the epic nuns with guns upgrades from our friend on shapeways? What's your thoughts on them? I've never even seen any 3D printed stuff in the flesh so I want to get some expert user advice on the issue!

I've been looking at them for a while; with the free shipping from shapeways this weekend they are starting to look a lot more appealing. I might have to redirect some EA rhinos from my space marine project, but I'd like to see what they are like before I commit.

Anyone have any pics of the stuff in action?

I do not have any photos at this time but I did pull the trigger on set.

I found them to be disappointing, while the quality is fine if you get the high end material the bits themselves do not really fit on any type of rhino bodies.

I expected them to fit on the old style plastic rhino bodies but they do not, they also do not fit on the EA style or custom rhinos.

In short unless you are planning on doing some very heavy conversion around the bits I cannot recommend them.

I am also curious on this and would love to see some pics.
I'm not adverse to a little custom work, but I'd love to see what they look like in comparison to Rhinos

Well, I took the leap. So chances are you'll get your pics when they arrive after the glacial timescale of shapeways shipping is over!

So, the kit arrived from shapeways today....

Now if you have ever wondered why postage from shapeways costs so much, here is your answer.

Yeah that is a 3/4 of a foot long box for 6mm parts. Anyways the bits are very nicely detailed in FUD however, with the exception of the immolator they are approx 1-1.5mm too wide. Gutting. Green stuff needed.

As was mentioned earlier, you'll also need to file the top detail off the rhinos you use, so once you commit to using them there is no going back which is a shame.

I actually think you could get away with getting them in white acrylic and save yourself £5 if you weren't worried about the little side window details on the Repressor components. I'll post pics to show what they look like painted.

I have more pics but I'm a technological Luddite on the Internet and I can't get them to upload no matter what I try. That computer science course at uni really paid off big time.

Will be interested to see these painted up, they do look nicely printed.

Thanks for letting me know about the dimensions problem! I can shrink the models and re-upload them to Shapeways. Is it just the width that is a problem or is the length also an issue?

Hmm, I noticed that even FXD models need extensive cleaning/filing, I wonder how much work the FUD models would then need, considering the material is inferior to FXD...

Here is an easy to use metric of how wide these need to be, no measurements required (I suck a measuring at any scale). The rear of the parts need to be no wider than the inside of this blacked area under the repressor bit in order to fit onto a GW epic Armageddon Rhino chassis I assume it's designed for.

The repressor and the exorcist parts need reduced in width accordingly; it's an immediately noticeable difference even at distance. Sorry for the blurry photos but that's life, eh?

The immolator on the other hand is almost perfect, it's only just perceptibly wider than it should be It's slightly annoying but, as it can be fixed with the same amount of effort as an easy moldline, I'm not really sure it's worth changing.

The repressor needs reduced in length by approx half to 3/4 the width of the black line on the first picture to the outer rear edge, otherwise the turret seems like it's floating slightly. You could get away with leaving it as is, I could just glue it slightly further back, but I'll work a fair sight better if you amend it. The others are A-OK lengthwise.

I have a feeling this might fit some of my more exotic amature cast rhino miniatures but they are at the other side of the country right now... And let's be honest, that really helps no one if they do. Once get them in my hands again I'll have a play and see how they compare.

Once these minor dimension changes are done I can heartily recommend these bits though. They'll be 100% compatible as long as you don't mind filing down surface detail on the top of the rhinos you use.

Hi!

Those parts look real good, be nice to see them mounted and painted for the full effect. :)

Do they fit the plastic Rhinos?

It's perfect that you used that lip as the reference point, Sayrewolf, because that lip is exactly 1mm wide. So here is the new Repressor body, narrowed by 2mm overall and shortened by 0.5mm.

I trimmed down the Immolator a wee bit so that you don't have to trim it by hand.

The Exorcist was more complicated. In order to shrink the back of the thing, I had to completely rebuild the organ pipes from scratch. However, this also allowed me to rebuild the base the pipes sit on, and I think the result is much closer to the original 28mm version.

Tomorrow, I'll upload the new set to Shapeways.

Edit: Aaaaand, we're up!
