Cutting and filing resin is a little bit unhealthy, though. Or so I have heard anyway.

Cutting isn't a problem - it's sanding the stuff. The particles are small enough to be inhaled and can cause damage to the lungs if you breathe enough of it. The workaround is to wear a decent mask.

Yup. Outside with a mask and you'll be fine

What a crappy letdown of a day. The Wal*Mart arrives with parts broken.

The defense lines look completely sandblasted and minus all detail except for half of the corners - they are smooth and perfect, so I don't know what the heck is going on with that...

Some parts I was casting wound up being completely encased in the RTV, despite a liberal coating of mold release. So I had to cut the parts out, ruining the mold in the process.

And to top it off, when I went to repour the mold, the good RTV (not the stuff I used in the failed mold) was too old and unusable.

Sigh... :'(

Hi!

To persevere is to triumph!

Don't let the setback get you down.

I'm sure with some trial and error you will obtain a result that you'd like. :)

Curses! Foiled again!

Tomorrow is another day, chaver. Have a good beer, pick up the remote, and prop your feet up

You can see the weird frosting on these parts - especially the one that is half and half. Very odd. Also, while the size of the model is fine, I'm going to have to retool the rivets in the floor plates, as they are too small to really be visible. In addition, I'm thinking the floor plates themselves are too large. I'm going to have to play with this design a bit.

BM,

Looking good mate. What is the endstate on shapes, how many do you intend to make?

Cheers
Aaron

25% increase in rivet size. 50% narrower plates (e.g. More of them and thinner)

When Shapeways delivery shite printed parts, can you not demand reprints for free? Seems fair if they haven't delivered on promises of a certain quality

Yeah, I've already got a ticket in with them.

As for the size of the plates, I had them next to the FW trenches this past weekend, and they match up pretty nicely (size-wise.) If I get the opportunity, I'll modify the recessed rivets in the plates, but if Shapeways just does a reprint, I'll be fine with them.
