Since my next project army is Krieg/Siege Masters, I figured I'd try to do up some defense lines for them. What's the preference on the deck plating - the raised plates, or the "joined" sections? I'm kind of leaning toward the more simple joined sections, but I want to get more opinions. I'd like to submit them to Shapeways ASAP to try to get them back before June 14 (though I doubt they will get printed in time...)

The line consists of one 8cm straight section, one outside corner, and one inside corner. A straight and two corners make one 10cm defense line/trench.

EDIT: The sections are 2cm deep, with about 1.7cm allocated to usable space. In other words, a 2cm x 2cm square base will have a little overhang. The reason I did this size is to keep it roughly in line with the FW defense line sections. I also didn't want to make the sections too big.

EDIT: Note the lack of piled up corpses in front of the defense lines. This may offend some GW purists.

And added a little detail to increase the visual appeal.

I added a poll to the top. Ultimately, what I'd like to do is offer them to everyone in some form or another, so I figured I should find out what people like...

I'm guessing the joined sections would be sized to fit 20x20 bases?

Pfft, MoI. You should use a more manly 3D program like Blender. I've heard that you can also get a Blender-compatible mouse and keyboard that inject needles into your palms to make design even more challenging.

Derp - I forgot to post the depth of the line sections. I've updated the OP. The sections will fit a square Epic base, but there will be a 3mm overhang.

FYI, I received a comment via email that the rounded plates don't look 40K enough. I could square off the corners if this is a big concern.

Nah, I do it the easy way - I design everything in ASCII and just import it into MoI.

Code:
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Raised plates, for sure. Looks better with a splash of wash.

Square or rounded edges, both good.

Ah crap - I modified the poll and it reset everything. OK, it was 6 for raised plates, 8 for the other. Please don't vote a second time - I'll just add the totals together.

Updated the OP to add an image of the front of the line.

Another vote for the raised plates, doesn't matter if they're rounded or not. Looking forward to using them for my Baran army.

Image including raised plates, modified to be more angular and GRIMDARK. If you trip, you WILL scrape your hands on these edges!
